HiCourt | When Courtney first started going to the pediatric cardiologist, he pointed out a lot of the things I thought were DS related behavior and made us realize they were in direct correlation to her heart murmur. All the squatting and crouching, the lack of mobility. Brother things just changed for YALL. The pinto is gonna become a little more... shall we say... petal to the floor board. If he does like Courtney, the increased circulation is gonna widen his awareness of the immediate surroundings. Once her murmur closed, she went from being a "dead to the world by 8:00pm" kid to "Letterman is prime-time". I hope things aren't this drastic for you guys. If it happens, consider it a blessing. More time to tweek the pinto.

[Edited by HiCourt on 03-14-2001 at 01:35 PM] | Kelly | Like everyone else, I have been waiting anxiously to hear your news -- I am SO PLEASED for you!! Can't help but continue to think of and pray for you too. | Willie's mom | I am so happy things are looking up. The power of prayer! Willie had RSV right before his surgery. They just waited until he seemed to be getting better and did the surgery. His lungs were the biggest hurtle. He is a wild man now who LOVES it when his daddy blows on his tummy!
Thank you for keeping us updated on all of you. Thank you also for your honesty.
| Ruth Murphy | All of this elation in these posts remind me of Ephesians 5:19 & 20:
"Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always GIVING THANKS to God the Father for EVERYTHING, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."
This news has made my day!!!! When I hug my Hannah, I pray for Joey. And so it goes....
As always,
In love and prayer for you, Jef & Shannon,
- Ruth | Louise | Woo Hoo is right! A zillion cheers for Joey, and you and Shannon! Give the surgeon a great big high five. We are all so happy.
What a sweet little FIGHTER Joey is. Your Pinto must have come with a V-8 engine! Hopefully, you can breathe a little bit easier now that the surgery is past you. We'll keep praying until he's "out of the woods." Keep us posted when you can.
It seems completely normal that you can't feel TOTALLY thankful to God about everything -- even if He did just grant our most urgent pleas!!!!!!!! I bet God is just delighting in any ways that you ARE thankful. You don't come across at all as being ungrateful. I know I struggle alot with not being wholehearted enough. I guess we all have a few small holes in our heart that God is mending. We're gettin' there...
Kiss that baby for me! Keep being strong for each other, and rest when you can. We're all rooting for you. Love, Louise, John and Max | vonda | I am SO happy for you guys!!! Just think now you are one step closer to that long awaited romp on the floor with that little guy, blowing raspberrys on his tummy and telling him you love him and knowing that he hears you. Going through things like this make us realize how much in life we truly take for granted. Every little milestone with these children is just SO exciting. Take care, get some rest and dream of the wonderful times you will have throughout the rest of the year with your baby. The worst is behind you now. Ü Vonda | Tania Collins | Hi Jeff & Shannon
That is wonderful. You guys must be relieved. A prayer of thanks has gone up from South Africa.
Shannon was so much better after her op - a lot more alert and no panting. So there is much to look forward to.
Tania | Emdad | YES! Now we'll pray to get you guys all home soon. Thanks for the news! | David & Judy Brown | hi jef and shannon,

p.s. it wont be long before you all can roll on the floor and do the things dads want to do!! | Summer | Great news Jef,
You will see now that your son will be completely different. From now on everything will go up. The down side has been turned around.
I am convinced that all the positive energy given to him from everyone who cares will make him better then ever before.
And a little tip if you two haven't done that allready.
Have a good cry with eachother, all the tension has to come out, let eachother see what you feel....
Love
Rob | Marg | So glad to hear your news. We have checked the forum every day. Nothing to add to everyone else's wishes. Lots of love to you all
Marg | Ingrid | What wonderful news, Jef!
I am glad the surgery went well. You had been on my mind so often in the last few days. I know the next few days/weeks will be a little rough. I found it so hard being in the hospital after Erik's heart surgery, but knowing that he would be so much better soon after and that he would come home, gave me the strength to get through it.
I am glad for you and Shannon and Joey.
Keep us posted!!
| jandk98 | Great job Joey! | Astrid | I am so happy everything worked out. I have thought alot about you and your family and Joey the last couple of days. You are always in my thoughts and my prayers.
What a relief. It must feel really good right now.
Hold on to that.
Astrid
| brenda | This is so wonderful. I'm so happy for you. | Jefry Klein | Wow, where do I begin.
I guess first things first. Joey's operation was a success. We did however find out in talking with the sergeons, that Joey had 3 holes in his heart, not 2. One was the size of a nickel, one this size of a dime, and the other a little smaller then that. After 7 hours of surgery, they have all been patched and the valve job that they did also looks good. Dr. Brown said there is a 90% chance that Joey will never need another heart operation. :O)
He is very sedated (of course he has been very sedated for the last 4 weeks) and will remain that way for a couple of days to help prevent him from ripping any stitches.
FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 5 1/2 MONTHS, HE IS "RESTING CONFORTABLY", which that along brings tears to my eyes. No panting.
The surgeon said that we still have a pretty big hurdle to get over, but at least he is past the actual surgery. One of the biggest factors we need to be concerned about now is his lungs and how they will respond. Ideally, we should have waited at least 6 weeks after having RSV before undergoing heart surgery, but due to his other issues (floopy airways, etc) they felt doing the heart surgery would make coming off of the ventilator easier and may also help alleviated some of his other underlying issues like feeding problems.
His right lung collasped, but that is the same lung that collasped in January. The doctors don't seem to worried about that.
I am off to the hospital to go check on my Pinto. Will keep you all informed.
One other thing. I still haven't totally thanked God for giving my Joey (not yet at least). Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't trade him for anything in the world (not even a normal healthy child). It's just that my heart is still heavy, however, I totally thank him for the people like you. These beautiful DS children make a difference in the world, but then SO DO THIER PARENTS.
