i am getting a bit worried. matthew has been coughing for awhile now.....a couple of weeks.....and of course i get really worried on a FRIDAY night.....could it be as simple as a cold? Or could it be more serious? I am really getting scared. He is sleeping soundly now....and it seems to only be constant at night....any ideas?

I guess it's worth a call to the Ped but it could be as simple as allergies. My 13yr old niece (non DS) has had this problem since she was about Matt's age and to this day has to take prescription cough medicine to sleep well at night. I'm not really sure what her diagnosis is, I'll ask my sister, but she only has this problem at night when she lays down for sleep.

If its a dry hacking cough it probably is allergies. I know my parents nearly went crazy listening to me when I was a child.

I don't want to be an alarmist but my son, who is now 12 had asthma when he was a baby ( until about age 4) that manifested itself as a cough just at night. He never wheezed where I could hear him, but he did cough. No emergency as he doesn't seem sick, but I would definitely mention it to the doctor next time you are in. Asthma can be set off by a lot of things, the biggest probably being allergies. Good luck.
