My son is seven years old and he has been potty trained since he was three but the thing is he will hold his pee all day if I don't remind him to use the bathroom or he will go while he is doing number two. As a result there is always pee stained on his underwear from leaking. So I was wondering is he not getting the sensation due to low muscle tone or is he just being lazy? I am so frustrated because if it the case that he is not getting the sensation I should just be patient with him... but I'm not sure.Help!!!

I am wondering if maybe you should have him evaluated by a urologist.I think the low muscle tone can play a big part in this and have I some friends whose kids have similar issues.A urologist was able to help them. At least you could make sure there is nothing else going on and maybe would have some ideas.

Wow, Really? Can you tell me what the urologist told your friend? Seeing an urologist never crossed my mind. Thanks!

this particular little girl has DS but in addition she has also had some strokes (due to another medical condition)The Dr feels because of the strokes and low muscle tone the little girl can not always recognize that her bladder is full. Unfortunatly she had to be catherized several times a day. I also have another friend who's son has Ds.He is eight and not potty trained. He also is autistic though and that may be a contributing factor. I have no idea if your son could benefit from a visit to the Dr but you could at least rule out any medical reason for this. the funny thing is my daughter is seven also. She is potty trained and does well but she does not urinate when she has a BM. I have to remind her to urinate at the same time. It's like it's harder for her to push the urine out. That's why I really wonmder if it's a muscle tone thing.
I also wanted to say that your boys are SO handsome!

Thanks Hannah's mom. You know to be honest, I think he's just being lazy. He will go when his brother goes and there are times when he goes on his own. Oh yeah and there were so many times I've caught him holding his private... that means that he has the sensation, don't you think? But just to be sure I'm going to have a talk with my dh about what you said and we'll take it from there...

uuhh.. and thank you for the compliment
