We're going through Grady's first bought with diarreah. When does it become worrisome? Is there a time frame where you should call the Dr. if it doesn't get better?

He started with it last night and it's still going on. He's eating/drinking/acting fine. No other symptoms than he's teething. He possibly feels a little warm, but it hasnt' been enough that I've felt I needed to take his temp.

The issue is dehydration. If he doesn't have a wet diaper at least every 10 hours, then you have a problem. As long as he is drinking well, having wet diapers, doesn't act sick, and doesn't have a fever, I wouldn't worry too much. Question as to whether he is teething because a lot of babies get it when they are teething--all that extra saliva going down the throat.

Just what Mary said - the wet diapers and the drinking are the key. As long as he's drinking, my ped wouldn't worry - I'd worry, but that's a different story! Keep an eye on the fever. Jaymes gets that way every now and then and it passes pretty quick without a trip to the doctor.

Keep checking those diapers....make sure he has tears and his mouth is moist. It is great that he is drinking..that is the key...however, if he stops...and still continues with the diarrea...keep a close eye. Kids dehydrate very quickly.

Please give him hugs from us and I hope he is feeling better very soon. If his bum gets red from all the diarrea....I use triple paste.....it's the best out there and clears up any redness in no time.

I have found my kids get bouts of diarreach and stinky bm when they are cutting teath. That can sometimes be the first sign that I know they are teathing.
Their buts can also get very soar with the skin breaking out.
I had this alot with my daugher, little or nothing like this with Robert, yet! And he has a lot of teath.

Well I was just coming to post and ask for more advice.

The diarreah has continued and developed into vomitting (on friday) and a fever (103). We took him to the ER last night and they rehydrated him. They gave him one bag and he was still very very fussy and his heartrate was pretty high. It was about 170ish. They said normal was 80-140. They said it was just from him being so upset. We finally got him to sleep and it went WAY down.

He got another 1/2 bag of fluid and sent up home. Well, he's STILL got bad diarreah. I'm talking almost pure liquid. He doesn't got often, but when he does go it's terrible. It soaks all this clothes/sheets etc. And we have to give him a bath.

The ER discharge papers say to return promptly if there is "severe diarreah". What's severe? Like I said, it's not often, just pure liquid when he does go.

He was able to eat a bit of solid food today since he hasn't vomitted in awhile. Do we need to just give it time? Is there a medicine they should give him? Poor kid's going to hate to go to sleep because he keeps waking up covered.

I think it is characterized as severe by how often it occurs. If its just once or twice a day I wouldn't think it's "severe". But if it's once an hour, then definitely I would think it's severe.

I would push the "BRAT" diet if he will eat--bananas, rice, apples, toast--that should slow or stop the diarhea.

If you feel still concerned, I would call my ped's emergency number or take him back to the ER.
