Reading Tom's "sleeping position" thread brought this back to mind..

Before Sarah was born, she NEVER stopped moving! From the very first time I saw her via ultrasound (no idea of Ds throughout the pregnancy) to this very day...she is such a busy body! Awake... but especially asleep! She sits up, flops down, and goes from one end of her crib to the other. When I did find out about her Ds, and as I read more and more about it...I wondered if the activity level as a fetus was related to her low tone.

What was your child with Ds like prior to his/her birth?

YES! I swear I don't think that he took a break! Especially during the ultrasounds (which we had TONS of---truly a blessing to see him, but not for the reasons that we did) Now he is just as much active, and he seems to be a lot stronger than I had expected.

Elainah did not move much, there were many many times I had to coax her to so that I knew things were ok. There was another thread about this around somewhere, but I don't remember it. I think what I remember reading was that the low muscle tone affected the amount of movement-but just like everything else, I am sure there is a range of experiences.

Payton moved a lot...off and on I should say...not as much as my son ever did, though. I think they say that DS babies don't move as much in utero, but I'm sure that varies by baby.

Daniel was not nearly as active as Elayna. As a matter of fact, at times I thought Elayna might come right through my skin she was poking me so hard with her elbow and feet.

Daniel was active enough that I never worried that he wasn't moving...but since he was my 2nd...I could clearly remember what it felt like with Elayna. She was like a volcano inside...and he was like a gentle wave. However, the big difference for me was....I never felt sick for a second with Elayna.....but with Daniel...I was on medication for severe morning sickness that lasted my entire pregnancy.

Daniel is always on the move...rolls everywhere all the time. Jumps in his jumper like pro...and gets himself all around that crib. He doesn't get into any weird positions yet...but also isn't walking yet...so I don't know what will happen once he learns to move even more.

VERY! He was nonstop from about my 16th week of pregnancy to...well, he hasn't stopped either The kids used to love playing the game where he would kick things off my stomach (like the remote) I was never able to get a good 4d picture of him because he wouldn't hold still long enough to get all the angles-little booger!

Josie was very very active pre-birth... Even more so that Katie ever was. Even after she was born, she never stopped moving and now.. I wish she would *sigh* to give mommy a break!!! LOL

Not as active

Justin did not move as much as my other 5 had. I was secretly concerned but he would always pass kick counts and I could always get him to move some so I could tell myself it was OK. When they told us he probably had DS, 10 minutes after birth, I knew my mother's instinct had been right on related to the amount of movement.

Robers wasn't that active. He was much quieter than my Hannah.

Wow! Thanks for your replys. It is really interesting...seems to go either one way or the other!

Sarah was a wild woman in utero, where my son would give me one wave per day...just to let me know that he was OK. (And this baby #3 is somewhere in the middle.) With Sarah, I used to cuddle up behind my DH and she would give him a "back massage" with all of that kicking. And...like some of you...we NEVER got a still shot of Sarah via ultrasound (and I had about 30 ultrasounds, as we were monitoring an ovarian cyst at the time).

I remember my very first ultrasound...she went from a tight fetal position to a lovely backbend over and over (maybe 6-8 times),as if she were performing calesthenics! She even moved throughout the entire fetal echo. Sometimes I wonder if that is why no markers were found on her prior to birth. She wouldn't stay still long enough to let them see!

And looking at her now...she has a whole list of Ds markers...Simeon's crease, curved pinkies, raised palet, that extra fold of skin behind her neck as an infant, shorter arms and legs. I just find it all very interesting. Those "things that make you go hmmmm...."

Koby was active when he was awkae of couse never moved much during sleep. ANd he developed a good patern of sleep and wake early on fetally. I was able to feel him move earlier than most people though so maybe he was VERY active...it's hard for me to say since I don't have any typical kids to compare to though....

Dylan was very active too. So much so that I thought I was having another girl, because my daughter was very active and my son Jordan was not at all.

I had the opposite experience.

Callum was very laid back and relaxed when he was in utero. Hie cord was really short because he didn't move around that much (moving around stretches the cord). They didn't even have enough cord to clamp it properly and it had to be tied off with a piece of string.

He also doesn't move around that much when he's sleeping now.

You might want to check some older posts like in the past few weeks because there was a pretty long thread where someone asked this exact same thing, but I can't find it right now, but I'll repost what I posted. My girls were not that active being twins, they didn't have the room. Halle was moderately active, but NOAH, OMG he never stopped EVER. I posted that he sometimes made me cry, brought tears to my eyes because he'd kick my bladder and my ribs so hard that I felt like he broke something. It usually started the minute I'd lay down to go to sleep, KICK KICK KICK all night long. It was awful. He may have low tone, but that boy can kick.

Actually I just found the other thread, here it is below.

Didn't notice any difference in activity level between John and my other kids. The only thing that was different with John was that he'd sometimes push a little foot or hand or something so hard that I often said to my husband that I thought I was going to have a spontaneous c-section! After he was born and diagnosed and they kept talking about low muscle tone, I had a hard time understanding what they meant because he was the baby that tried to push his way out through my abdominal wall!!!

Even though it's been almost 3 years, I remember her pregnancy like it was yesterday. Natalie moved 24/7! She really kicked it into high gear when she was on monitors at the hospital, yet when we'd have ultrasounds she would turn her back to us and go to sleep with her arms in front of her face. We saw her face twice during her short stay in utero. She still moves around! We even had to place a queen size mattress and box springs on the floor because she doesn't stay in toddler beds, she rolls, or flips out during the night. I call her my manic monkey!
