Aden has extremely dry skin. I did read somewhere on a DS site that Ds baby's are more prone to dry skin. Is this just one of those things that are more myth or do DS baby's have skin problems more than other baby's?

I don’t know what to use I have tried a few lotions from the pharmacy natural one's, one natural one had lavender oil and was specially for baby's and even burnt my skin, that's terrible.
I tried to get cotton seed oil as suggested from hospital but couldn't find any and was told that Olive oil was just as good and it dose calm it down but he is still peeling white flaky skin like peeling sun burn with out the redness.
All the lotions and creams I have tried cause him to brake out in really bad red heat rash as he seems to sweet under it. The olive oil doesn’t have this effect on him but it’s no going away either.
Any advice from you all will be much appreciated thanks

Well, I am sure many will have suggestions in the morning, but what works for Elainah is a combination of things.

When the problem is at its worst we resort to steroid cremes-like hydrocortisone.

But I use Johnson & Johnson's Aveeno 24hr moisturing lotion on her twice a day-morning and night. I keep a mix of aquafor and eucerin creme on her face through out the day-especially after washing her face.

I try to avoid soaps with any perfumes or colors-most of the time barely any soap at all is used, when we do-it's Johnson's. We never rub to clean her skin, we only pat.

No scented wipes, and never used anywhere but on her bottom. No scented, or colored laundry soap.

That's what we do at our house and it helps quite a bit.

skin

Justin did the peeling thing and red rash for his first 2 months but now seems fine at 3 months. I used virgin coconut oil on it and weleda brand calendula cream and both were tolerated well. Also I am breastfeeding but give hime some extra dha (3 capsules a day)in his supplemental syringes. That is suppose to be good for their brains and skin. All of the above should be available from a large health food/natural food store.
Hope this helps.

Aden's Mom

At our last visit to our paed doc she recommended we use a cream called Calmurid, made by a company called Galderma.

She noticed that the skin on Robert's legs only was dry.... I wouldn't have said dry, more like 'goose pimples'. She told me this was the only cream on the market here in Ireland for this dryness.

My chemist had to wait a few weeks until the manufacturer produced a new batch of cream. I used it a few times, but to be honest I'm not that concerned with the dryness. IMHO it's not that bad.

You apply the cream after washing, leave for a five minutes, and then you wipe off excess. The cream is designed to break through the 'goose pimple' and moisturise the skin.

Not sure what this cream is marketed under, down under!
Maybe we are talking about different dry skin problems?
I don't use any cream or lotion on Robert, his skin is fine otherwise.

Thanks you both so much
Always chaos do I have to get the steroid cream from a doctor, my regular doctor was away and the fill in one said that there is nothing he could offer us, now I have a name for one I might get somewhere

Is aquafor and eucerin from a health food shop could I get it from the pharmacy or buy it online we live a few hours from the city and only have a small pharmacy here.
I have been using Pineta sol (ego) it’s for bathing when you have things like chicken pox, hives, heat rash things like that but I would love something to help his skin feel like baby’s skin.

Icbrownfam I will give those ago. I’m giving Aden my breast milk in a bottle and the pharmacist said to me today that it could be Aden has lactose intolerance. I thought there would be more signs then that and he said an upset tummy also. Well Aden is way too content to cry even if his tummy was upset, but he’s gaining weight so don’t think it’s that. Thanks for you help

Thanks Linda I will ask about that cream tomorrow hope we can get it.
Even when I don’t use a cream for a few days his skin still has little pimply dots and it feels so dry it’s his face is very prickly when I rub my check against his.

aquafor and eucerin are over the counter here in the states, but I am not sure about where you are. In fact, I am not sure if they sell these brands there at all. But if you did ask a pharmacist about this problem he could likely show you a product that would work well. Steriod cremes come from the doctor, and can only be used short term.

ajbest, gave you a good link to get more info about this as well.

Aveeno has always worked good for us. It seems to be more "natural" and doesn't given Payton the "zits" that other lotions give her, thereby causing all around healthier and more moisturized skin. I use the Aveeno lotion and the body wash. I also have Eucerin on hand.

It could also be an allergic reaction to laundry detergent. I use a lotion that has allantoine in it and it has worked great.
