Your children are so cute! Just wanted to say that William turned 4 in December and we are no where near potty training him. He has no concept or awareness that he is wet or dirty. He'll walk around with a soaking wet diaper all day long if I let him.

I was told by a doctor who specializes in Ds that you have to wait for him first to recognize that he's wet or dirty, ie pulling at his diaper and things like that. We're not there yet. Hopefully by age 5!!

Good luck!

It's another one of those things that can vary a lot. I know of someone whose son is 2 1/2 and he's fully potty trained by day. In general boys tend to be slower than girls to potty train and I think the average age for typical boys is 3 years old. It might be that when Brooke's twin potty trains then Brooke will want to as well.

Callum has peed in the potty a few times but doesn't yet tell us when he's wet or dirty. We are going to get more serious about the potty training now that he's 3, but will probably do it more on a schedule rather than waiting for him to tell us he needs to go. We'll start putting him on the potty morning and night and at day care he'll sit on the toilet when all the other kids do. We're just going to take it slowly and see what happens.

Oh, I thought we had made quite a bit of progress. It used to be if I sat Henry on the potty, he would oblidge. He did this a couple of times a day. Then he quit, and sometimes would go in the tub instead. Now he's quit that. Now he strips down (CONSTANTLY!) and just goes wherever. I want 5T sleepers with the snaps up the legs to keep him contained in between potty breaks!

I'd be interested what people say. I need to go back and read all the threads we've had on potty training.

Started potty training at 3, and Noah will be 7 in May and we are FINALLY FINALLY 100% trained, have been for about 6 months so I'd say around 6 years old he was 95% trained. It takes a LONG time. At 3 he seemed ready and had the pee down for weeks at a time, then BOOM, would pee in his pants 10 days in a row. The poop part was the worst and took the longest, and I'd say he was around 5 1/2 when we'd go for 5 days or more without an accident. It's so funny now that he just goes to the bathroom by himself and I can hear him peeing in there without ever coming to get me to help him at all. But he still yells for me to wipe him when he poops, but I don't care cause changing those poopy pull ups was HORRIBLE. Just keep in mind that they will potty train when THEY are ready, not when you are ready for them. It seemed like the more we pushed him and the more stressed he got about potty training, the further behind we got. I saw a big difference in Noah, compared to my 3 girls. BIG difference, and I don't think it's cause he is a boy, I think the whole Ds thing plays a big part. He does everything when HE is ready, reading, learning, cleaning up, it's a big, long routine.

We've had a bit of a different experience with this. MAtt does not care when he's got a wet or pooey nappy. However, if you put him in pants and he wets himself, he very much cares!

We've been putting Matt on the potty/toilet at regular intervals every day for a couple of months or so.

Every morning, after breakfast he goes on, and does a wee and poo. We then take him after each meal, plus once more in the morning, and afternoon, and lastly at bedtime. Most of the time he will do a wee, and if he doesn't, he stays dry until the next time we take him.

He does have accidents, but not many - as long as we remember to take him!!! This week's been a good week, and he's only got thorugh 3 pull ups altogether! (Proud mum here!)

Wednesday was the first time he actually initiated that he wanted a wee, asking me to take him upstairs. He hasn't done that again since, but I'm encouraged that he's done it the once, so will do it again.

I'm envisaging this will take a year or more to fully sort this, but I know he's getting there. And I'm encouraged that he's doing so well.

So I'd say, it's worth letting Brooke try, especailly if her sister is going. And with summer coming (supposedly) it's easy to go nappy-free, and the best time to try.

Good luck!!!

I know this sounds crazy, but the Dr. wants us to start Carson now at almost 6 months. He told us that DS children can be so stubborn and set in thier ways that we should try to avoid that. We are going to start working with him this weekend. He told us to make it where there is no pressure. Praise them when they go and if not, no big deal. Hey, for me it is worth a shot.

That is awesome that Matthew is doing so well. He is my inspriration. He is the first little boy I saw a picture of when I came on her after Carson was born. He is doing so well it gives me great hope for Carson.
