Can some one tell me what can be bought with Supplemental Social Security Benefits? I just received Elijahs, but I don't know what qualifies.

I don't think it's a matter of "what qualifies" We received SSI for a while with Darah and we used that money for living expenses....it allowed me to not go back to work and stay with her at home. In other words, it paid for what would have been spent on childcare, ect... We received it just over a year.

Hope that helps??

SSI is income based. However, the income guidelines to qualify are higher than Medicaid and other government assistance. We qualified for SSI but didn't qualify for Medicaid...BUT, if you receive SSI, you automatically get Medicaid...CONFUSING!!! I'm sure there's some variance depending on your state. It's worth applying for if you're considered middle class...maybe not if you're upper middle class status???

I'm with McKenna, living expenses are what you are supposed to use it for.

I think I spent Elainah's first check stocking up on diapers, wipes, and everything else she may need in the first few months.

Gloria!!

We applied for SSI and my husband makes too much money. The whole process took less than 1 month. But atleast Kennedy is in the system in case there are any changes in income, loss of job, etc. She does however have medicaid through a waiver program which certainly helped with her heart surgery bills, etc. And they pay all of her co-pays. Apply an see what happens! It couldn't hurt!

You can use your SSI to cover any goods or services directly related to your childs care (including living expenses). You could use it for adaptive computer equipment for an older child (when Angela was 2 we purchased a touchscreen for our computer) or other adaptive things. We were also able to use it to fix a window she broke when she threw a toy, a fence for our yard, etc.

actually SSI can be used FOR ANTHING that pertains to the well being of the child...

i JUST came from Social Security on Monday, after filing a Payee report.
You can use it for toys, rent
clothes
electric,
gas for your car
rent,
anyhthing that Helps take care of the baby
food, reccreation,

i use hers mainly for rent and food.. grandma & grandpa buy all her toys and clothes and shoes.. cept now and then...yes shes spoiled.

they do not ask for specifics when filing a payee report

medicaid is also included.. i never been so glad to be underpaid (poor) i would never be able to afford her therapy!

You can use it on anything that has to do with Elijah. House note, house hold bills, car payment, gas to go to doctor and etc. Just keep everything like copy of house hold bills if they ask you to prove what you spent it on.

I often say, "I'm blessed enough to be poor." Because really, I am! Because I am far below any poverty lines, Angela and my other kids qualify for MA.
