Elainah has had a few rough nights in her lifetime but last night was just awful. She has no fever or anything major going on with her. There have been no changes in food or really anything else. She is not cutting any immediate teeth that I can see. No one in the house is sick. Last night she cried herself to sleep in my arms. She just kept crying and crying for no reason that I could find. I tried all of the logical fixes like a new diaper, drink, a walk up and down the hall, but nothing worked. Finally about 45 minutes later she fell asleep-still doing that breathing you do after a big cry. When I laid her down she slept all of about ten minutes and returned to the loud screaming. At some point during the night I noticed that she had her hand on her head just above her right ear. When I moved her about she quickly returned her hand to this position.
Now, unfortunately our pediatrician does not seem to ever find much when it comes to office visits, so taking her in to the doctor will likely not result in anything useful. He cannot see into her ear, because of her tiny canals, and without a fever he is likely going to say that her holding her hand to her head meant nothing. She has never had a formal diagnosis of ear infection ever. She has had fluid on this ear before. I don't know if this could cause pain, or if maybe she had a headache-don't know if little ones get these or not.I gave her tylenol thinking that something hurt her, and she was up crying most of the night. This was not just a discontent fussy cry, it was a cry of being extremely uncomfortable or in pain.
Her appointment at U of M's ENT clinic was rescheduled until the end of the month so I really don't have anyone to go to about this unless she gets a fever or other syptoms. I will call the doctor's office, and they will see us, but the doctor just laughed at me the last time we were seen stating that since she had breathing problems I could anticipate that she would have difficulty breathing and dismissed our visit as a waste of his time. He called her a "honker" and said that with her floppy airway there is just always going to be some type of upper respiratory congestion and problems. I cannot switch pediatrician's until May, so I am stuck with doctor doesn't want to do anything. Yet he is always more than willing to prescribe whatever it is I ask for and more.
My little girl feels awful-I can tell. She is exhausted this morning and just whining and wanting to be held.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do?
