Just posted this on my blog:

We finally got Mikey a "big boy" bed. We had Mikey in a crib for the longest time, mostly because we were worried about him getting up in the middle of the night and wandering off. But he outgrew the crib so we got him a toddler bed from Ikea but he managed to break it. It had a guard rail and Mikey would sit in the bed and push the guard rail with his feet. The wood cracked and the whole bed came crashing down. So for the last couple of weeks Mikey has been sleeping on his mattress on the floor. I had asked Mikey what kind of bed he wanted, and he ran into his sister's room and pointed to her bed. Saturday, while Mikey was out at his socialization program, Michel and I went off to Ikea to buy Mikey a new bed and mattress (and a new mattress for Beth, too). Even in three separate boxes the thing weighed a ton but I managed to get it upstairs and spent the rest of the day putting it together.

When it was time for Mikey to go to bed, I brought him upstairs and he saw his new bed for the first time. You have heard the expression, "his jaw dropped"? Mikey's jaw dropped and he stared at the bed unbelieving what he saw. Then a huge smile came to his face and he jumped into his new bed. He was thrilled. We were worried that Mikey would fall out of the bed because he rolls around at night all over the place. While we had the mattress on the floor, we would find Mikey by the door or over by the closet, everywhere but on his mattress. So I took his old mattress and put it by the side of his bed. We needn't have worried. Mikey didn't come close to falling out of bed so we stopped using the mattress after the first night.

So now my big boy finally has a big boy bed. Next, a TV for his room. He deserves it!

Sorry about the quality of the picture... I took it with my camera phone

YAY!!!! MIKEY!!!!How cool to have your very own bed...and I like your choice, you have good taste.

Tom, I thought you were going to say that you took Beth's bed and bought her a new one...LOL! What a great dad for putting it together and getting a "jaw drop" expression from Mikey!

I LOVE Ikea, and you say this bed is from Ikea too? Noah's bed he is in now is from Ikea, it's a growing bed, you can shorten it or stretch it out and it's stretched all the way now so I think he's going to be needing a new one. I LOVE the fact that this bed has 3 sides to it. I think I'm gonna have to take a trip to Ikea. Lord help me, no Lord help my husband cause when I go there for 1 thing, I come home with 10, ha ha. Love it, and he looks JUST like Noah lying in that bed, if I hadn't known it was Mikey I would swear that was Noah. I guess cause he is SO SO SO cute and cuddly!!! Is that Spongebob and Patrick on on the bed? Are you SURE that's not Noah? ha ha

Vonda - yes, that is Sponge Bob and Patrick. Mikey is addicted to Sponge Bob.

Sleeping like that is one of the reasons Mikey was able to sleep in a crib for so long. The problem was the weight, not the height. Mikey liked to jump in his crib and we were sure that the crib was going to come crashing down.

And here is the bed on the Ikea web site:

Alright! Good job on moving up to a big bed Mikey!! How exciting, and it sounds like he made the transition with the greatest of ease.

That's a fun picture of Mikey sleeping. I can hardly believe that he can sleep like that! Some mornings when I wake up I FEEL like I've been sleeping in that position!!

Good for Mikey. I love the way he sleeps. If I could manage to get this body in that position, I think I would sleep that way too. Looks comfy to me. I love the bed too. We just had an Ikea open. Krissy and Aaron went looking for a big girl bed for Mya. Must be the season.

It IS a really cool bed. We've been bed shopping around here too! Not for Sarah (YET), but for Stephen. He is now in a full size bed (big mistake on our part!) ...and with the new baby coming, I'm thinking that there is no way to fit a crib into his room along with the full. Our problem has been the color. Trying to find a twin bed with a natural finish to match the dressers is almost impossible!!! I was told today that "it's just not popular anymore." UGH!!!

Sarah will be in a crib until she's 15, if she still fits. LOL She, too, is a mover...flipper...turner, who can also sleep in Mikey's position. I am so afraid that one day she'll sit up and flop herself right off a bed. I LOVE the three sides too! I will have to check out the new IKEA that is local to us!

I was laughing so much reading your post because it was like I was reading about Chris. He moves so much and we were postponing the fact that his little brother needed his crib hahaha
but we did finally the change and some weeks ago Christian started sleeping in his own junior bed and well so far every morning he has been still there hahaha of course i bought this thing to protect him to falling hahahaha otherwise he may have been by now in our room
ill send some photos later

Chris also sleeps in that position he even sits and moves so much!!! I can imagine Mikeys face with a big smile
we live in IKEAs paradise country of origin Sweden and funny but we dont have an ikea bed hahahaha

maybe because like Vonda we have avoid going there as we also come back not only with one thing but with 10 hahahaha that is so true!!!! hugs

Mikey fell out of the bed the other night but no damage done and he didn't even wake up. Michel tried to get him back in bed but he wouldn't budge so he spent the rest of the night sleeping on the floor.
