Hi folks

Forgive me if this is a daft question.

I've just spent an hour cheering myself up looking at the stories and especially the pictures of all your wonderful kids. Lily May and myself are expecting a special addition to our family in July (see the Introductions section for more detail)

But one thing I noticed as I scanned through lots of the posts, were that many of them are from mums, and not so many from dads

Is that just my imagination?

Whilst I'm looking forward to getting to know you all over the next few months, and Lily May is too, I'd love the opportunity to chat to a few dads who've got special little ones with DS.

Perhaps I was just looking in the wrong place??????

Looking forward to a chat fellas!
Jazzman

There are a couple dads who post, Tom (site owner) Emdad, Apensity, and occasionally Johnboy (I think that's his username. That's angelbaby's husband)

It is mainly us mums, Andy. And I guess that's probably because we tend to chat more, and are often more likely to be the ones looking for support. My Andy has never posted or even logged onto here (although we've got a joint name) but does read posts if I point them out to him.

However, this board was set up by a dad, and 2 dads are moderators (keep us in order), as well as 4 women.

It's great having you on board though, but hope Helen is able to post here too, and she doesn't become the Downsyn widow (what my Andy calls himself because of all the time I spend here!!!)

I have been coming to this site for a long time .i only post ocasionally but it is true there is a lack of fathers here..
I also go to a ton of things geared for our kids and i also see a huge lack of participation of fathers.
I am usually either the only one there or the same small group of fathers are there..

A good topic question i think i;ll post and see if we can get any answers bob Julia's da da

Yeah, I don't post as often as I used to, but I scan the forum several times a day. Feel free to post a topic or PM any of us testosterone-laden lads anytime. These ladies are very tolerant of our goofy ideas and even let us post the occasional recipe.

I'm here almost daily at least reading posts. My wife has really taken to the forum, so she keeps me updated on most topics. I have very little time now to be able to post, but really keep in tune with what is going on with reading a few times a week.

Oh yeah, and while I'm here, Happy Down Syndrome Day everyone!!!! I know I'll be telling everyone about it at work! Hooray for our little troopers!!!

Welcome to Downsyn!! I read your intro just recently. I think more women are here because we do chat a lot. Most men (not all) usually don't chat as much (my husband doesn’t chat). I love hearing from the men as it helps me get some perspective of what my husband is feeling. My husband did post a while back under my name. He has stopped looking at the site and he felt that he was obsessed with reading all the posts and not getting other work done. I don't know if he has returned or not. I am not about to ask if he has returned to this site. Many here know that he is still struggling with the DS diagnoses and I hope to God that someday he will accept Anthony.

As Keri indicated above, I do check this site most everyday. I think it is incredible at the size of the audience from all over the world and really enjoy reading up on all the successes. Just know that you aren't the only dad roaming around this site and there is tons of support and encouragement from everybody.

Take Care
John

My husband lurks around with my user name. He reads the posts and looks at the pictures but hasn't created his own user name yet.

My husband definitly comes here and reads. Also, I tell him what is going on as well. We have been meaning to sit down and set up an id for him and let him introduce himself. I'll make sure we sit down this weekend and do an intro for him.
