So since I live in MA I figured it would be a good idea to go to the conference but also since my little guy is only a month old I have no idea as to what to sign up for. Just looking at the registration confuses me!! HELP! I live on the western side of MA so I also will stay in Boston but I am looking on Homeaway.com to see if there is an aparment, condo or house for rent in the area. I find that renting something like that is most times cheaper and you have a kitchen, living room...

So, any input on the registration and stuff like that would be amazing!!

Joanne

My husband and I were really confused with the registration as well. We ended up just calling the contact number on the NDSC website. Here are the contact numbers and info...

Toll Free: 800.232.NDSC (6372)
Local: 770.604.9500
E-Mail: info@ndsccenter.org

The lady answered on the 2nd ring. We were not really expecting an answer. She was really nice and extremely helpful. She helped us with all the confusion...the prices, the difference between the pre conference and the conference itself. I hope this helps a little

Melissa

joanne,
I'm in Eastern Mass, not far from Boston. Could you stay outside of Boston and drive to a subway station? Could be less expensive that way.

Hi KatieB

The price wasn't really a concern, I think whatever it is would be worth it. My thing now is hubby can't go because of work and the older boy so who would come with me? Ahh...I can not navigate Boston alone, Springfield is bad enough nevermind HUGE Boston. I'd get lost with a 5 month old.

Thanks though!

Jo

I'm the opposite, can navigate Boston, but springfiled is tough went there about 8 wks ago, finally found the museums we were going to, but got quite lost, can find Yankee Candle in Deerfield without a prob. We're going to Cape Cod for a week the same weekend so I'm going to try for volunteering for registration through the MDSC.

Nope, Springfield is all my husband. If I have jury duty down there I make someone drop me off. I don't understand the one ways there and you have to go around the mountain to get to that street type stuff.

I have to ask, were you very dissapointed in the museums? We went last month and it was just an ok. That Cathedral is the church I grew up going to, was in the choir even! SO we went to the museums a lot when I was younger, everything was so much cooler back then (just because I was younger I am sure!).

I hope you have a great time volunteering, I'm sure it'll be a blast!

The registration isn't that complicated once you get the hang of it.

There are three main conventions going on at the same time:

1) For young people and adults with Down syndrome
2) For brothers and sisters of someone with Down Syndrome
3) Everyone else

The convention is Saturday and Sunday but Friday has some pre-convention sessions. You must pay separately for the Friday pre-convention. The pre-convention includes a bunch of sessions that last all day. The Saturday and Sunday convention often includes shorter versions of the pre-convention sessions. So if you see something in a pre-convention session that you are interested in and are willing to pay the extra cost then you should sign up for it. For exsample, I am a Dr. Capone groupie so i will be attending his session.

Saturday and Sunday will have a general session where everyone attends (this is usually a big name guest speaker) followed by breakout sessions.

If you have any other questions, please ask.
