Fletcher is set to go back into surgery tomorrow morning. They will be removing sections that they feel have been the main source of the detrimental seizures. This does not by any means that he will be seizure-free, but hopefully it will take the nasty ones away. Thank you for your continued prayers for Fletcher and his family.
This is from his Caringbridge the other day that leads up to surgery:

Grueling .
That is the word that comes to mind when re-capping the events of the past 24 hours in PICU Bed 3 .
In a nutshell . They dangled Fletcher over a cliff attached to a choke chain collar and had to snatch him back yesterday .
No day has been easy while we've been here . But yesterday was by far the most difficult .
Fletcher's brain short circuited in a major way and he had 6 tonic-clonic ( grandmal) seizures . Each time the next one would get stronger and longer .
The last one was horrific and just wouldn't stop . He ended up being loaded with 4 mg Ativan , 2 mg Versed , and 1000 mg Dilantin to make it stop finally .
He was choking on excessive secretions and vomit and they had to go in thru his nose with a tiny flexible suction hose and suck out all the nasty stuff . His 02 desatted down into the 50's . Ending up on 6 liters of oxygen to keep his O2 sats up after it was all said and done . He bit his tongue and lip too , so there was blood mixed in with all the saliva . His blood pressure plummeted . It was a very scary chain of events . Thankfully ...it finally stopped .
This part of the data gathering was not part of the agenda .
He never did wake up at all yesterday . Each time he would try and rest / recover from the previous seizure , another one would hit him . They were unmerciful .
The sun sets . and the sun always rises . Today is a new day . So far nothing major has transpired .
Looks like Tuesday is his day for surgery . However , his sites are leaking some cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) , not a good thing . So he may end up in the o.r. sooner rather than later . The neurosurgeon tried to reassure us that "some" CSF is ok . Ummmm. last time I checked , NO , that's not ok ! Pray that Fletcher does not get a serious infection as a result while all the Dr's are scrubbing in for their tee time at the country club . |

As we can only try to imagine...how scary!!! Fletcher's mom sounds like she is keeping herself together and as well as can be expected for sure. We are keeping Fletcher in our hearts now and for his surgery tomorrow. Please keep us posted.
Sincerely,
Linda

Wow, Kris, a child shouldn't have to go through all of this . I'll be praying for Fletcher. Sorry I haven't been able to post more but my father just left my house today. I doubt there's much I could offer Fletcher and his family but please keep me in mind if there does happen to be anything I could do to help. I'd be happy to babysit Fletcher's siblings in the city for a few hours at night if there's a need for that. As you know, my job is only 6 blocks from the hospital.
