Please pray for my brother. He just found out he had ulcerative colitis-we thought he was getting better, but today he had emergency surgery and had to have his large intestine completely removed. Please pray that he gets well soon and can deal with all the emotional issues of dealing with the colostomy etc. This all happened so fast it's really scary. He's in the ICU now. Thanks
UPDATE 8/11******************
He was finally discharged from the hospital today...it's about time. After the last round of infections he had some drainage tubes put in and they seemed to do the job. This past week he finally started eating. He has a real appetite. He's finally off the horrible steroids and is so much like his old self again. For a while we thought he'd have to come home with a PEG tube but doesn't need it now. For a while he couldn't even walk he was so weak and he was going to have to go to a rehab facility. But he just started to get better and better! He's so excited to be going home and can't wait to go back to work.
Thanks for all the prayers!!!

I will pray- that doesn't sound like much fun. Hopefully he will recover quickly.

My neighbor had the same thing done about 25 years ago, she was very very young at the time and she has gotten along great. She said at first it is kinda rough, but you just get used to it and before you know it, it's routine. Praying everything turns out for him.

My cousin had the same surgery years ago. She does really well now, but it was tough to go through! I promise to keep your brother in my prayers!

I'm so sorry to hear this about your brother. He must be feeling miserable and upset about what has changed in his life. Praying that God helps him heal quickly and that he finds a way to accept this change and realize his life can go on and he can be happy.

Thanks for your prayers everyone. Can I ask that they continue. My brother had the initial surgery on Friday the 13th and since then has had 2 emergency surgeries because of hemorrhaging. They opened him up a few days after the colectomy and couldn't find the cause of the bleeding. He seemed to stabilize and then last night they wisked him off to surgery again. They again couldn't find the bleeding but tied off some big artery just in case......oh and he has an infection now too. He's had the worst luck and he was so weak to begin with because he had originally ignored his diarrhea for so long before he saught medical help (sounds like a bull-headed 20-some yr old man-right!)

praying for your brother Angie - i was almost as bull-headed at age 20 but finally lost so much blood that i HAD to go somewhere. i've lived well with Ulcerative Colitis for many years and although mine has never been as severe as what your brother is facing, i know part of what he has been/is dealing with. i hope that he will heal and recover well from this point on and take good care of himself. God can provide, aj

Well, after 3 emergency surgeries and 2 emergency artieriograms to clot of hemorrhages-my brother was finally starting to get better. He was transferred to a regular floor and was eating solid food and going to physical therapy. No he has an abcess and had a drain put in last night. Now they have to put in a bigger drain and if he doesn't improve they have to do another surgery to clean out the infection.
The good news is when he was feeling well he was in really good spirits and said he probably wasnt' going to have the iliostomy (bag) reversed. He had a young male nurse with a colostomy bag himself and he seems totally at peace with the whole bag thing. Now if he could just get better and go home.
