Hello all,

I am 25 years old and have two children, a 2 year old daughter and a new baby boy. My son was diagnosed with having Down Syndrome at birth. I am still in a stage of fear and uncertainty. I am a Special Ed teacher, I love my family, I love sports and to read and write. Anything else feel free to ask...I look forward to meeting other parents!!

Welcome and Congratulations! Our little girl Katelyn was diagnosed at birth too- I know it's a tough time- I think pretty much everyone here will agree. But it gets a lot better!

What grade do you teach? I am a teacher too- 8th grade.
I'd love to see pictures of your little ones!

kzmom--I teach 6th, 7th and 8th grade ELA/Reading Resource. What subject do you teach? I never thought I would survive teaching middle school but I actually love it!

Your children are beautiful!!! Welcome!! Your feelings right now are normal! But, let me tell you, you are in for the ride of your life! It's not the ride we all would have chosen before our little ones made their way into our lives, but the ride is quite amazing with thrills you never would have imagined!!! Very Happy

Welcome, your children are beautiful! I hope you find downsyn to be as helpful as I have...great, caring people with character and depth; and hands-on knowledge. Ask any question, vent any emotion. We understand.
And it will get so much better, give yourself time, give your son time to melt your heart and your fears.

Just wanted to add my welcome. This journey is very scary in the beginning, but give yourself some time to adjust and you'll be just fine. You've found a great place for information and support. Can't wait to get to know you and your beautiful children better... Smile

Glad you found us and I'm hoping we can provide some light and laughter to balance out the fear and uncertainty. Most of us have been right where you are, but I'm happy to say it is a stage just as you said. Hang in there. Another teacher here, regular ed. elementary for 9 years, then transitioned to special ed. high school for another 3, until our Emmie was born. Now I am fortunate enough to be a SAHM,
though she is starting school on Monday! (Only 1/2 day, and just Monday's though. Momma isn't ready to let her go just yet! LOL)
Anyway, you have found a great place for ANY question you will ever have. Looking forward to getting to know you. And your little ones are BEAUTIFUL!

Just wanted to say hi and welcome. We received our diagnosis six days after Louis wa born. Our world fell apart but day by day we are rebuilding it and I promise you, things get easier. Take all the support you can get. This site is great.
I write too, and have found it cathartic to write about Louis. What sort of thing do you write?

Hi and welcome to downsyn. This place is great. My little one, Talitha, is nearly 3 and amazing me constantly. It is a scary path at first but over time you realise the rewards far outweigh anything else.
