Hi everyone. My name is Randy. My wife and I are expecting a child in June. Today, we were called and given the news of the FISH results. He is a HE. He also has Downs.
I set up this account so that my family (my wife and her two daughters, 12 & 19) could get on and share any thoughts or questions and get answers from people with personal experience.
The 12 year old (Megan) is excited, she really wanted a baby brother. The 19 year old (Tia) is also excited because she didn't want another baby sister. She also has many questions. My wife is excited to be having a son, but she also has many questions. I hope they dive in and use this resource.
Me, personally, I have experience with children with downs. I have a teaching liscense and have some classroom experiences. I am also very excited to be having a son. It will be nice to balance things out around here!
If you made it this far, thanks for reading my novel up above. I look forward to talking with you all more.

Welcome! And congratulations.
You've found a group of people who think getting to be the 1 in 733 (the aprox. number of Children born with Down syndrome) is pretty cool indeed (after the huge initial shock wore off and we got to know our amazing little kiddos, of course)!
Can't wait to learn more about you and your family.

Welcome and Congratulations!
My little boy Ethan has just turned one and was diagnosed with DS shortly after he was born. We also knew we were having a boy from our 20 week scan, my husband couldn't wait to go shopping for boys toys (we live in a very girly household, lots of pink, barbies and HSM around the place )
Looking forward to hearing more about your family and seeing lots of cute baby pictures when your little boy is born

Wow. Thank you all for the quick and encouraging responses. Tracey (wife), Tia and I sat and read these quick responses and were amazed by the reception and the wonderful pictures you all post. There was a chorus of awwws coming from the little crowd around me. Thanks again.

Welcome! I am McKenna and my husband and I have Darah (4 who has Down syndrome), Connor (2 who is a handful!), and we are pursuing the adoption of another little girl who has Down syndrome who just turned one.
Congratulations on your son and we will anxiously wait for pictures after he arrives (although, I think most of us would love to drool at his sonogram pictures!!)

We've decided on Zane Eugene. He was always kind of stuck with the Eugene part because that is a first-born son middle name that's been passed down a few times.
I sure wish I had a picture right now. The first ultrasound, the doc kind've hit us with a brick and really didn't give our little guy much chance at making it this far. Needless to say (so I'm going to type it), we walked out stunned and speechless.
The second ultrasound was utilized just for the amnio. I was thinking more about the needle. I did see his little hand and the five little fingers...yeah, I counted.
Next ultrasound, though, we are determined to get a picture.

Welcome!!! It is so great that you are coming together as a family and supporting one another. We received a prenatal dx and I know it was a very rough time for my husband, but now he is Quinn's favorite and his heart just melts when he sees her. I myself was very surprised how a prenatal diagnosis can make the birth experience (at least for me) so different - we went through some drama while pregnant, but the birth was so positive and no one even mentioned DS because it was already known. Hope your wife has a good rest of the pregnancy even with all the appointments - gosh there was so much more than usual that you have to go through
