Hi everyone, so did you all servive the Christmas holiday?
I have a little comcern and I'm sure it's all fine for our little ones. It has to do with standing and how steady they should be. Austin is going on 16 months and he does pull himself up to a stand but is very wobbly. It's like his legs a wet noodles. They just always give way. His PT hasn't said anything about it and we don't see her again until after the first of the year, and he doesn't go to the doc until next month.
Does this sound ok or in the normal range for our little ones? I know their tone is very low, but when you look at him standing against a chair his legs look so frail and wimpy. They almost look like a 4 months old babys legs. Is there any kind of exercise that I can do with him to help tone these little chicken legs? Thanks.

Sounds fairly normal for our kids. Low muscle tone makes it harder to build up those standing muscles and makes everything so much floppier and flexible. When Talitha runs her legs still look like wet noodles flying all over the place but she has got the hang of it and doesn't fall down much any more.
From what you say I reckon he is doing great

Ethan has just turned 2 and we still work on his standing and leg strength in his current therapy programme. We do things like passive cycling and stomping his feet whilst sitting on a little stool and lots of supported standing at his play table (and free standing with me supporting him around his hips) Austin sounds just like Ethan at around this age, he had real jelly legs His favourite thing was to lift his legs up in the air every time we tried to get him to weight bear
With Ethan’s programme we do a combination of leg strengthening and weight bearing exercises for a few minutes a piece nearly every day and find the consistency and repetitiveness of these activities has gradually built up his tone and confidence and we are seeing a real difference these past few months! When playing at home I also encourage Ethan to play standing at the sofa with his favourite toy just a little out of reach to keep him standing a little longer!
Austin sounds like he’s doing really great!

When Ben stands he puts all his weight onto his heels! Would something like a door bouncer help with leg muscle development?
