post op pain management...

Does anyone have any information or experience with postoperative pain management? Do kids/people with DS generally react differently to narcotis? Either requiring more or reacting adversely?

Josh is literally almost psychotic and we can't seem to find the right balance. He's either sleeping... or hysterical. He had hip surgery last Monday and I wanna go home!!

They are trying Baclofor because he couldn't tolerate valium (complete opposite reaction from what it was supposed to do... he screamed for HOURS... HOURS)!

They are also trying Clonidine for the agitation. I think it's helping, but he's still pretty upset when his eyes are open.

Tonight we started Atarax for the itching that the oxycodone causes.

I'm wondering if we'd be better off on just tylenol?

If anyone has any info or experience... or comments about any of the meds he's on... I would SO appreciate the help. I miss my big kids, I need sleep... I'm a basketcase...

I'm not going to be any help, but just wanted to say I hope they can find the right mix for him. Hope the recovery is a fast one.

I know tonsils is nothing like hip surgery, but Henry responded best to just plain motrin. He was on the oxycodone, no reactions, but it didn't seem to help him much.
I hope they get his med mix figured out soon.
