Getting my balance

Well after getting the information back in Dec and Jan on Ty Christian and trying to work with nursing to change the way every thing is handled ( a lot LESS screaming now) I am still in burn out.

I guess you can tell because I had to take a few months to try to get my balance in all this.

I took some classes on Autism. Like that would fix things...HA! One was with the school system that turned out to be a support group for Aspergers. Not where I am supposed to be, anyway.
Another was a Judevine Autism workshop which was great. Well except for one small detail...they had never worked with a child with Ds and ASD.
Still, the ideas and techniques that we have applied are working. Most of the time.
Of course we are headed up to Atlanta for the "thinking outside the box" conference. I have been homeschooling and allowing the school system to become involved for the ABA training. I can see now that is not going to work. I think I have to do it. After speaking with the teacher I am more sure than ever. They are not allowed to teach much at all in special needs preschool. He is way ahead and we need to keep it that way. Even if he cant communicate, or function socially, he does respond to me teaching him.

Can anyone share what they are doing? Did you get the ABA therapy or are you having to learn it on your own, like me?

In the great state of Georgia, ABA is not covered by medicaid so far.

What is the state of affairs where you are? LOL we have considered moving!

Lord if it wasnt for Farmville Rolling Eyes for the past few months I couldnt have thought all this through yet...nothing like plowing and thinking in the middle of the night! LOL!

Sorry, I am of no help at all, but just want to say I was missing you terribly, and checking everywhere for any updates. My gut- felling that this new dx is difficult seems to be right. Just know, I'm thinking of you often and praying. How are your hands?

Karien

You are so sweet. I miss you too. My hands are working right now! LOL! I am using some oil extracts and juicing. I guess so much is happening I need to tell you the juicing is for the arthritis and the oil of Oregano is for the Rose pickers disease AND I am just resting my arm for the Hand-arm vibration syndrome. If I discover any more previously unknown "syndromes" my husband is going to make me stay in the house! Thankfully I can still find natural treatments for me.

How are you doing?

I think the new diagnosis for Ty Christian is not so bad on him. I just keep looking for ways to help him. We have to be educated to help him.

How is everything over there in beautiful Africa? Wow I wish I could get back there for a bit. Thats something I pray for. Who knows? We may get to meet up some time!

I am homeschooling my other kids but, unlike Ty, Talitha doesn't respond so well to me teaching her at the moment. She goes to preschool two days a week and her behaviour there is much better than at home generally. She doesn't have ASD but we do have other issues including hyperactivity, selective mutism and other behavioural issues.
I would say that if Ty is responding to you teaching him then keep up the homeschooling. It is helping my 11 year old son particularly with his confidence in maths - at school he was dropping further and further behind.

Next year (our schools start the year in late Jan or early Feb) Talitha is due to start school then. I am going to try her in mainstream school as long as they will provide an aide but always have the option of homeschooling if it doesn't work for her.

I adore that picture of Talitha~

I think you are doing right. Talitha may respond better with peer pressure while Ty goes off into a corner and sits with his back to the kids. I think that Ty does better with one on one because of the background noise and action in the room. When you can see a difference, like in your son, then you act on it. Good mom!

Thats what I told myself about Ty...if the system doesnt work, I can pull him out.
