We are thinking about getting Henry and his sister a gaming system for Christmas this year. I need suggestions are on what would work for toddlers. Something fun that I can at least pretent has educational potential and controllers Henry can use. He has not played any type of video or computer game yet and his fine motor is pretty pitiful.

Most kids now like the nintendo wii or DS. If you get the wii you could get a dance mat and game.

I recommend getting the lego games too (star wars/ Indiana jones) as these are simple games for kids and you don't need to aim accurately to shoot the baddies (Great for me coz I'm so bad at shooting games, lol). My neices and nephews love the lego games.

With my kids running the gammit in ages, we has several game systems around our house. Nintendo 64, Playstation 2, Wii and Nintendo DS. Cass has just started showing an interest in watching her brother play the games. The titles we have are way too advanced for her. BUT......I did see where the Wii system is coming out with 2 new games this fall for toddlers....one with Elmo and one with Cookie Monster. We're going to look into those for her. Also, Fisher Price has a new handheld game this year for toddlers, an IXL. It seems to have a lot of advanced features but I know it would be something that would grow with her.

Check out the new Leapster Explorer. I just bought that for Sean because he's not quite ready for the DS games. Good starter gaming system!

Both my boys love the Wii especially the lego ones. We've also got a couple of Diego games that are aimed at younger kids and various sports games.

Callum can also use the PS3, but finds the controller a bit more fiddly.

The Wii is good because the whole family can play.

We wanted to get Dillon a game system but were afraid he would have trouble using a stylus. We got him a mobigo since it's touch - I can't wait to give it to him!

At 14 Angela still has trouble using a Nintendo DS. Most of the games they make are just too hard for her, or they have written instructions that she can't read. For handheld stuff, she is LOVING the iPad! I have so much stuff on there for her, it's incredible. Seriously, she could stay busy on that thing all day.

She loves Wii, but doesn't like the games that are like virtual worlds. (ie Lego star wars) because they're too hard for her. But she LOVES to watch other people play them. She IS very good at Wii bowling, or some of the Wii fit games.

I just posted this on another thread in a different section. Justin is just about the same age as Henry. He turns 5 on 12/9. I went back and forth between the mobigo (touch screen looks cool and might be easier) and the Fisher Price IXL. We went with the IXL because I really liked that I could put his favorite music and pictures on it and also that there are no cartridges to loose. I want to load up his music and pics before giving it to him.

So we'll see how it goes. If I can get it loaded up, I may do it for his bday and then can let you know. Someday if I can get a good deal, I may get a mobigo also and rotate them.

We have a WII and Justin can't really play it yet. He loves to sit with the kids and if they are doing a driving game, he drives with a wheel with no controller in it or often just waves around a nonworking controller for other games. He totally thinks he is playing! Will have to look into the new toddler stuff.

Lets all check back after our little ones get their presents and give updates.

We ended up getting a Vtech Vsmile Vmotion something or other. I wanted something pre-school, DH wanted something inexpensive that both Henry and Ramona (2) could play. As we have no older kids and neither Mark nor I play video games, we don't need anything capable of more mature use (the Wii sure looks fun though). I sure hope it's straight forward and fun for the kids. I really like the idea of something hand held that he could take with him and could load music on. Maybe next year. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
