And what are you doing, now that they are school age, to help it?

Grady's is definately fine motor skills. He's gotten OT since about 10 months old and he still gets it for 30 minutes a week at school. Plus the normal stuff they do in class that helps him work on those skills.

I've decided though, to try to get him some private therapy again. But really, I don't know if that's gonna help. I think, at home, we just overlook things and just do them for him automatically. We really need to start making him do everyday tasks.

He'll be 7 in May and still hasn't chosen a hand dominance. He can't open round door handles, he still barely makes horizontal and vertical lines on paper, etc. etc.

Talitha's is definitely speech. I am starting to suspect that her ears are full of fluid again or she is just ignoring me a lot. It's hard to tell. But I can't organise hearing stuff for her until I know what my treatment schedule is.

She isn't having speech therapy but I have applied again to get it for her - for the 4th time in 12 months. All previous applications have achieved nothing so I have applied with a different provider and am waiting to hear from them.

Her speech is very limited and I am sure she has apraxia. She can say some sentences clearly but she uses the same sentences all the time and no new words or variations on those. And she uses those sentences in other situations that they don't really fit in to as if she has no other words to use. For example she can say "come back 'ere" and uses that if someone goes away but also when someone is doing something she doesn't like.

Speech! He is starting to say a few words but it is his weakest area.

Grant is actually in Early Childhood, but we increased his OT from 30 - 40 minutes mid year because of the lack of progress. The OT is also trying shorter OT sessions (4 times for 10 min vs 2 times for 20 min) to see if that helps Grant more. He hardly wants to draw anymore at home, so we just try to work fine motor in to play. Right now he's enjoying play dough, so we use play dough scissors, rolling, etc. Memory games and Connect 4 are also a hit right now, even though we don't really play them entirely correct, the OT suggested them. Really, at home, we just try to include it in regular play. We only get private speech, even though he is probably furthest behind in fine motor. We feel right now the speech is most important.

Social skills are a key area: Jay can be very grumpy and rude to people, even when they are trying to be friendly. No idea how to tackle it , it may be just a teenage thing.

OT in my opinion. Danny is 5 and still struggles with strength in his hands. He couldn't take the cap off a bottle, start a zipper or button. He still needs assistance to do those things. He tries so hard, but his little hands just don't want to work just yet. He needs alot more strength before he can master the fine details.

Angela's, by FAR, is fine motor. Most of her other things test around 6-8 years old, but her fine motor is around 3 years old. It frustrated me to no end. She cannot do buttons, zippers, or snaps. She cannot write her name well enough for anyone to recognize what she's written. Fine motor skills are what have kept her back in a lot of ways. We have done private therapy off and on with different therapists for years and it hasn't helped at all.

Axel's weakest area is speech/language. He tests out of OT. His "run" is a bit unusual but it's because he didn't have an opportunity to run until he was 8 years old. He'll probably never have a normal run. But his general gross motor skills are age appropriate. (take out the fact that he's deathly afraid of heights!)

Andrew's is definately fine motor. He just turned 6 and his hand dominance is finally emerging. He's a lefty, which makes it very difficult for me (a righty) to help him with pencil grasp, which is his absolute worst area! Buttons & snaps we haven't even tried yet.....he can't engage a zipper but can zip up/down and disengage....donning socks are hit/miss.

He gets OT weekly at school and every other week privately. We do alot of coloring, play doh, work with tongs, picking little objects out of little cups, etc. He CAN turn a doorknob by putting his whole hand on top of the knob & pulling sideways to turn it. Wink

Fine motor! This has definately caused issues and gives the illusion that she is far behind her peers in school. Unforunately so much of school is written work Sad

Good question
in order will be
1- Fine motor skills : he can't write. He write his name and can draw himself, open the door, very good computer skills. But he can't zip his jacket, button his pants, pour his juice in a cup and he HATES anything realated to crayons....if they give him the kid menu that comes with crayons in a restaurant he will flip out.
2.- Next will be speech. He is way behind but the last 2 months he had been making a lot of progress.
3.last will be social: he can be rude or have tamtrums in public place once in a while.

Fine motor was always slow here too: but in the last year Jay has finally got to grips with shoelaces, chopsticks and a knife and fork: he's 16. Zips and so on are no longer a problem at all. I would say just stick in there, our kids will get there when they are ready, and not a day before. No rush... Laughing

Kayla will be 9 in July and she talks alot and writes very well, but her boundaries/social skills are really bad. She has good manners as far as please, thank you, etc..., but we were at an indoor climbing park this past weekend and Kayla would not stop picking up the little kids. They cry and she won't let them go and then the mothers get upset. One mother said "She traumatized my daughter!!"

She can't control impulses one bit even though we have talked about it until we are both blue in the face. I can't bring her there anymore and it is just sad.
