Should I be worried?

Austin over the weekend had some kind of stomach issue. Not sure if it was a virus or a small blockage in his colon. ( when he has had blockages before, it always looks like a virus so we just never really know ) Anyway, Yesterday he came down with a fever. We have a virus in our house now that is playing out like the flu. Today it was up to 104.6 so I took him into the doc's. In the middle of her checking Austin out she was called to the hospital because a new born baby wasn't doing very well. The nurse came back in and said she was going to treat Austin with Tamiflu ( sp ) They did do a test for the flu. But I didn't get a chance to ask my questions because she was gone in a blink of an eye, but I noticed that he lost a pound and a half since he was there at the beginning of March. The office is closed tomorrow and they are out on vacation all next week. Is this something I should be worried about and look into it now or wait until they come back in a week? I'm really freaking here because he's little to begin with for a almost 3 year old. Please someone calm me down some. Confused

{{{{HUGS}}}} As a rule, my kids always seem to break bones or get really sick on the weekends usually a Friday night - Murphy's law, I guess. My hunch would be that if there is a virus going around in your house that it is very likely that Austin has it. That said, if his temp stays high I'd want him to be seen again. Your doctor is just closed next week and didn't give you another office to call while they are out just in case something like this happens?

If he is keeping the fever, seems dehydrated, or isn't eating, I'd take him somewhere before then. Poor guy Sad

I don't think you should freak out. As my husband says, "A pound or two can be pooh." seriously. If he's sick he's not eating. Get him over the flu then take him in for a check up. Call the nurse in the morning if you are still freaking out in the am. Is he taking pedialyte or drinking sprite? My doc used to recommend flat sprite or ginger ale when my kids were sick.

They didn't give me who was covering for them next week. I guess in the rush of here getting to the hospital, she forgot. I will be calling just to see who is on call for the week. Didn't think of that last night in all my mind racing that something could really be wrong.

He was about 27 pounds and is now down to 25.3 pounds.

Is he doing any better this morning? As far as weight goes, I would not worry too much. We weigh Mark about once a week and there are many factors - the scale - not all are equal, how squirmy he is while standing/sitting on the scale, how recently he had a bm or in Austin's case, an enema, is it early in the day or late in the day. Mark's weight has fluctuated by as much as a whole pound in one day. But as I said before to give yourself peace of mind let your doctor know your concerns. Let us know how he is doing. {{{{{MORE HUGS}}}}

Very Happy As long as I don't forget to give him Ibuprofen he seems to be fine. He sounds like a baby seal and his nose is like a water fall, but seems fine as long as the fever doesn't get up passed 102. It's haging around 101 with Ibuprogen/tylonal. Hoping he isn't as sick as Cody. Cody has been home all week with this.

Austin stayed home today. He's got the congestion, runny nose, cough and matted eyes. He's also refusing to eat. He'll drink, but no food. Wonder if it's the same thing. I've already put in a call to the Dr. We'll see. Did you ask your ped about the weight loss?

Oh my...must me the Austin sickness. Sounds just like whats in our house.

I lucked out when I called the office this morning. The nurse will be there all day and when I called at 10 the doc JUST walked in to get some files. I was able to talk with her She made me an appointment for the 11th to check his weight. She said she's not worried right now, but if he drops any more from not till then ( the 11th ) she will run tests. I didn't dare ask for what because thats a week away and I don't want a week of stressing and worrying. I do have a scale and I'll keep checking him I'm sure. Wink She did tell me not to worry. Austin is one of here top priority kids, so she will always go that extra mile just to be safe. ( I love this doc )
