Hi everyone. Lovely to meet you all. I found this forum last night whilst searching for information on Down Syndrome.
My name is Donna and I am expecting my 5th baby in August. We have been given a 1:3 chance of our baby having Down Syndrome however we have declined further invasive testing so we won't actually know if we belong here until our baby is born.
Our baby has some soft markers that may indicate DS and we want to be as ready and as knowedgable as we can in preparation for this little persons arrival.
Either way we are really looking forward to meeting our new little bundle. We have four boys so far and don't know the gender of this bub. I think boy, DH thinks girl!!
I have a heap of questions for you all so will bounce around the boards now and post in the appropriate places.
Thanks for reading!!
Donna

Welcome. I had a prenatal dx and this site helped me a lot. Good luck with everything!

Hi and welcome to downsyn. We didn't have an amnio but had similar chances of Talitha having DS because of a heart defect. We are in Yass, NSW. Which part of Australia are you in?

Thanks again everyone. This place is so welcomming. Aden's Mummy that clip was just lovely. I really enjoyed it. Thankyou for sharing.
Tigger thankyou. It's kind of nice to met others who didn't have the amnio. I think people wonder if I have rocks in my head for not having it done. Bottom line is we just don't feel it's necessary given that we will get our answer when the baby is born.
We are in Melbourne. Ahh I know where Yass is!! We often drive past Yass when we drive to Sydney where my Husbands family live.
Lovely to meet you! Can I ask how long after talitha was born did it take for them to give you the positive result that she did have DS??

Hope you don’t mind me jumping in and letting you know that it took 4days for our results to come in after Aden was born.
We were told it might take 2weeks, we were relieved it was quick although we had come to terms with it as best we could, by then.

Welcome! So glad you found us!!
I am mum to 7 beauties including Gianna who is 5 with DS. We live on the NSW mid-north coast. We were also given a 1 in 3 chance of DS (due to duodenal atresia) but declined further testing. Gianna's test results for DS were back in about 3 days but it was as clear as the nose on her face that she had DS!!!
It is great that you have the chance to look around this site and get an insight into raising a child with DS, so that you are ready when your baby is born. Please feel free to ask any questions you have. There isn't much about DS and childhood that we don't know between us!!

I think it took about a week to get Talitha's results but it was obvious to me that she had DS. I was much more worried about her heart issues than the DS so by the time she had her heart surgery and I was able to settle and focus on the future, the fact she had DS was old news and not an issue for us.
It is good to get in contact with you. Next time you are travelling through maybe you can stop in for a cuppa. You would have to like animals though because I have a lot of them.

Hi again Donna
I am another Aussie who has recently worked out how to use this forum!! Welcome.
PS I got the confirmed diagnosis for Hannah in about 3 days I think? When it came it was a bit of an anticlimax as we already had gone through the pregnancy with high risk and were really just waiting for the confirmation.
