What does everyone think about developmental preschools?

Pros/Cons?

At what age should you start? (my son is 8 months old)

How many days/hours per week?

we LOVE ours! the state early intervention (EI) stops at age 3 here in NC and then you move on to pre-school. Janna started in Feb and really is enjoying it. she has overcome her sensitivity to loud noises, she is potty training fairly well, she is feeding herself better, etc. etc. i can't say enough good things about her school and teachers and therapists! she is pulled for OT, ST, and PT - they have music class, art, visit the library weekly. here's a link to her school's web page;

http://www.waynecountyschools.org/332/site/default.asp

she goes in the ams, 3 hours, five days a week.

enjoy your precious son as the time will fly and it'll be time for pre-K.

welcome to this wonderful site! aj

Kayla goes to an Easter Seals program. She started at 2 1/2. We love it!

I was a SAHM, so we didn't send her to any programs until she got out of Early Intervention. Although the Easter Seals program does have a daycare as well and I would have sent her there if I had been working.

Lily will be starting at a school called Rise when she turns a year old. It's twice a week for 6 hours untilshe's 2 and then it's 3x per week until she's 3 and then it's4x per week until she's 4 and then it's 5 days per week until she's 5. We're really excited for her to start.

My son started at one when he was 3. He went there 3 months then I got a job there.

As a mom I will answer the question ( not as a employee)
Pro's They are with other children and the one where Briar went had kids that are just there for daycare. ( I hope you know what I mean) Those kids took care of him and helped him learn. He saw them going to the big potty, picking up toys, eatting without getting it all over him and talking ect. He got therapy there so there were no more trips all over the country to get therapy. He made friends and got in a routine.

Cons The thing that I did not like was that he had 1hour bus ride. He was gone from 7am to 4pm. The I never knew what he was doing in therapy and kind of felt left out. I do not think that some of the therapy was as good as it could have been.

Over all I would not have changed anything. He had a one on one most of the time and it was a good experience.

In Mexico therapies are giving at schools, so I take Elias there since he's 40 days old, but until he's 2 by september mommy needs to stay inside the classroom, because they want us to be part of the hole thing instead of only lefting the kid with someone.

we loved it, it was good for Elias to be with other kids, and with other disailities, and also for me, because I was able to learn, be part, and know moms and therapists better

oh and it always been 5 days a week, 3 hrs per day. He has PT,ST,OT, and music since the beginning

Lily will be starting at Rise school in september when she is 12 months old. It will be 2 days per week for 6 hours for the first year and then increases as she gets older. I am really excited. It think it will be such a wonderful thing for her.
