Eye muscle surgery

What have your experiences been with eye muscle surgery? If your child had the surgery, did they need to have it again? Did they have to wear glasses afterwards? Ali had both eyes done last July, and now it seems like the right one is turning in again slightly (that one was the worst before surgery). We have a follow-up appt scheduled for April, but I can't decide if I need to have it checked sooner.

John has had both eyes done and they're both still great. The doctor did say that sometimes they have to go back in again because the original adjustment wasn't enough. John wore glasses before surgery because he's farsighted and still wears them. His prescription isn't as strong anymore, but I don't think that has any thing to do with the surgery.

I don't have any experience with the eye surgery...yet. Dorothy has strabismus and so far nothing is working to straighten it out. We tried patches but she just ripped them off as soon as we put them on. Now she is on an eye drop but that doesn't seem to be working either. She has an appt on Tuesday and I am hoping to find out one way or another what has to be done. Anyway, I'm keeping an eye on this thread to see what others have to say:)

Andrew had surgery done to fix strabismus in both eyes when he had just turned 2. He'll be 5 in less than 2 weeks and is still good as gold. I was also warned of the possibility of a repeat surgery if the first one doesn't *stick*.......it's not uncommon for this to happen, but not terribly common either.

Personal experieince......mine. Had it done when 5 or 6....... left eye stuck forever...... have had the right one adjusted several times ........ considering doing it again anytime I can talk someone into it (it is fine with glasses on so I have been ignoring it for ten plus years....since I can't see my own hands w/o glasses.....but my headaches are back bad!)

I know we have been warned that Devon will / could need a second surgery to fix his when we do his this year! (we are really late..... but we will do them now he is participating with his glasses)

Matthew had his done when he was about 18 months. He is now 32 months and so far he's still good. I'm hoping they stay that way! Sometimes every now and then I'll think I see it again, but I think it's because of his epicanthal folds. In pictures, the light always reflects evenly in his pupils and whenever we go in for check-ups, the opthamologist says he looks great.

Matthew doesn't wear glasses. We tried before the surgery with no luck and afterwards the doctor said he didn't need them. Hopefully that's still the case in April when we go back.

Good luck! If you're worried, it doesn't hurt to go in early.

Russell has had eye muscle surgery 4 or 5 times over the past 11 yrs. It's helped as much as it can. Russel has Amblyopia along with Strabismus which kinda looks the same but it's not, it's brain related instead of muscle related. So, muscle surgery doesn't help with the amblyopia.
