Colorado vacation advice.

Hello, it has been a while since i have been on here.
Those of you from Colorado..... We are planning our next summer vacation in Colorado. We are looking at Grand Lake area. Any opinion on that area? Good, bad, trashy, alot to do for the kids, beautiful. ??
Does any one know of someone personally that they would recommend who rents out cabins?
thanks for any advice. We are really wanting to get out of the Texas heat and enjoy the pretty mountains. My kids have never seen the mountains.

We are not from Colorado, but vacationed there twice. Not in the Grand Lake area, but not too far. Stayed at a friends' house near Denver and explored around - Rocky Mountain National Park is a must (make sure to get Access Pass for your daughter if you don't have one already - it gives your car a free entry to any national park in the US; you just need a note from your doctor saying she's got a disability). We didn't rent cabins, but spent a few days camping inside the Park - pretty cool if you're into roughing it. Estes Park and Boulder are quaint towns to visit. Boulder Canyon Drive is very picturesque. If your kids are into dinosaurs, dino footprints near Red Rock Park (near Golden) are neat to see. We also took the tour of the Coors Brewery Smile but this may not be everybody's cup of tea. Even further from Grand Lake is the Great Sand Dunes National Park - this was the highlight of our trips, but it's really remote and definitely only for those who love camping.
