Alopecia?

Julia has very fine and thin hair, and a thyroid that is out of whack. Yesterday I went to brush her hair, and realized that she had about 3/4 of the outer most layer of hair in the back was gone like it had just broken off and cut into bangs on the back of her head, it's not bald, but if you know her you an tell alot of the hair is gone. Alopecia maybe?

It could be. My best friend in high school has it. Her hair would just start falling out in places, then she would be bald (for the most part) and then spots would start growing in...for maybe a year at a time she'd have a full head of her own hair. She mostly wore wigs though until her own hair was grown enough that she was comfortable with. I don't talk to her anymore but from her fb pics I can tell she is wearing a wig again. Anyway, it's worth it to talk to a dr. The good news is it doesn't effect health in any way.

We have a little cutie here in Ri, with Alopecia. Her hair started to fall out in clumps. ( I remember when it happened, but I don't remember how many years ago it was. ) She's 16 years old now and still wears a wig. Health wise, she's fine. It was hardest on her mother, but Mom learned to take it in stride.

it's awful for children to have alopecia at such very young age. My dad is suffering from it, but he's 59 now. Im afraid my daughter would have this, too Sad

There was some interesting information on this thread over on Baby Center about Alopecia you might find helpful. From what I understand it can be a transient thing.
