I dont have any advice concerning potty training for a child with Mosaic Downs. Other than consistency. My child has typical trisomy 21. She became potty trained at 2 1/2 yrs old. We were very lucky. I know of some children who were much older before they were able to accomplish this.

I really responded to your question because of the question posted a short time ago regarding Moasic Downs. If you scroll down this list, there is a question from a Hattie Currie. She was asking for help with Mosaic Downs. Possibly you could check out her question and give her some information, since your daughter is 4 yrs old. Im sure it would be much appreciated.

Good Luck with the potty training. Sorry I couldnt answer your question. Maybe someone else can.

Like I said in the earlier post, allow yourself to grieve for the loss of the baby you expected, and then learn everything you can about the wonderful baby youll have (Barnes & Noble has a Special Needs section). Reach out to your support group and meet families with babies and slightly older children with DS. Thats what we did, and it really helped. There are lots of kind people out there. Ill e-mail you a poem entitled, -Welcome to Holland.-

Regarding handling it all: that was my greatest fear! My older son was 20 months when Paul was born, and I was so nervous about having 2 children under 2. I freaked myself out so much that its incredibly easy in relation to what I expected! I call Paul my angel baby, because hes so sweet, with a wonderful disposition and a very good baby. Get yourself a Baby Bjorn infant carrier (www.rightstart.com) and a double stroller, and keep on the move. Itll certainly help when your older one starts walking. One positive thing, your older child will be the best thing in the world for your younger baby. Hell follow him around and learn so much from him! I wont go on, but feel free to e-mail me directly. Good luck and God bless. --Lisa ]]>
Support groups http://www.downsyn.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=342 Nancy Harris Trever does not need surgery! What the X-rays. . . . http://www.downsyn.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=337 Cindy
I live almost mid-way between Evansville and Indianapolis. 1 1/2 to 2 hours either direction.

I live in Greene County Indiana. There are no local support groups for DS in my area. Actually not any supports groups at all for parents of kids who are differently abled. As a matter of fact, my daughter was the only child under 20 yrs old, that we knew of, in the county, with DS, until recently.

Its been a big adjustment with our school districts, etc. Because they have not had a child with DS in their school. So far, so good. However, Im paving the way in other words. In this case, I would much rather be a follower than a leader, but evidently this is the path Im supposed to be on.

My daughter is 8 now, but for years, the local doctors and dentists really didnt want to diagnose her because of her previous health problems. Theyve always sent her to the pediatrician or Riley. That was a real pain, especially when we were going two and three times a week.

Now, however, shes doing much better and we are able to go for typical things to the dentist and doctor. But we still travel for the major things. Such as ear tubes. Just found out at Riley, yesterday, that we need yet a 5th set.

I wish your brother and his wife good luck with their child. If you need anything, please contact me on this site. I usually try to check it every day or so.

God Bless, Cindy ]]>

Baby Noah http://www.downsyn.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=332 vonda
Today my mom and I look at him and feel ashamed that we let the diagnosis of DS make us cry so much. He is absolutely the love of our lives. I think that everyone on this website will agree that there is something truly special about these children that I cant explain. My husband has 2 other children from a previous marriage and has twin daughters with me and he loves all of his girls so much, but when I see him hold Noah there is a difference about him. He is so in love with Noah, just like I am. I love my children dearly, but Noah is so special and I feel the deepest love for him. I dont like to say that I love him more than my other children, but when I look at his face and he puts his little hands on my face and smiles it just makes me cry so much. He is so beautiful and I cant imagine my life without him. He is doing so well also. He had a bit of trouble holding his head up at first, but this was the only thing he had trouble with. He is going to physical therapy once every 2 weeks and the therapist is always so impressed with him. He has always been above his age limit on everything except for the holding his head up part. He smiles, rolls over, plays with his toes, grabs toys, and has the loudest vocal voice I have ever heard!! He nursed and took the bottle like crazy and hasnt stopped!

I know that the shock is overwhelming and you might think that life wont ever be the same, but trust me, it will only get better. You will establish a normal daily routine just like you would if Noah didnt have DS. When my doctor told me this I didnt believe it, but it is true. Keep in touch with all of us and I bet in a few months or even weeks, you will be back on her bragging about your little angel. Id love to hear all about it. Also, check out the website www.c-magic.com/logan/ It is wonderful. There are many great stories and pictures of beautiful children with DS. My son Noah and his sisters are under -Logans friends, part II-. I hope you enjoy it. Take care.
