Hi Courtney, thanks for the compliement. I probably write just like I speak....very longwinded!! LOL...I was voted most talkative in high school..so I suppose you could call me a professional talker!! LOL...
I have been to every state along the east coast...from Vermont to Florida. Prior to having kids, my husband and I traveled alot. Some of our vacation places were Vermont Maine and New Hampshire (all are in driving distance so we would go there for long weekends)....I worked in MA, live in RI...and also worked in CT so we are always in those states. We have friends and family in NY so we have traveled there quite often. NJ comes next...that is the home of Atlantic City...so I have been there several times. We have been to Disney a million times and drove down several times...so we stopped in every state....bought some Georgia peaches...stopped in North and South Carolina..Virginia, Delaware, Maryland..I know I must be missing some states...but we stopped in them all.
We have also been to PA (most recently visting Stephanie and everyone at the PA get together).
For our 5th wedding anniversary we spent 2 weeks traveling. We flew into Los Angeles and stayed with my college room mate for 4 days. We did the San Diego Zoo..went on the Price Is Right, Jay Leno....drove to Las Vegas for 4 days (that was a VERY expensive stay!! LOL). Then we continued and drove up the Pacific Coast Highway...(the first few hours of that was great...but boy did it get scary when it got dark). We went up to San Fransisco where I got to visit another college room mate. We toured Alcatraz (that was amazing)..went to Fishermans Wharf and after all that....we flew home!! That was the best 2 weeks ever.
Your next question about 9/11. I was working right outside Boston in Westwood MA. My husband was also working even closer to Boston in Braintree MA. I was in my office and I heard people talking. We tried to get a TV on...but couldn't get reception. Someone had a radio in their office but we just couldn't get a station to come in. We all had the internet so we were watching our computers for updates. My husband called (he had a tv in his office)....so I put him on speaker phone. I'll never forget it...my office was packed with 30 people or so. My husband was repeating what he was seeing on his TV. His words...."OMG, the building is falling...the building is falling". There was a silence in my office that I will never forget. We were all in shock. We had several employees who had family that worked and lived in NY....we were one of them. My husbands cousin worked in the 2nd WTC building. She was able to see the first plane hit. They were told that they were safe and to remain at their desks. She had a feeling...and left. As she walked down the stairs, she saw all of the fireman walk up. She told me that when you work in hi rise buildings...you have training on what to do in case of an emergency. She said there are 3 kinds of people. Those who help other BEFORE helping themselves...like firefighters. Those who help themselves BEFORE helping others...and those who panic and can't help anyone. She says on that day she learned she had to help herself. As she was walking down the stairs and it had become apparant that her building had also been hit.....she knew she had to get out. People were frozen in fear on those steps and couldn't move. She wanted to help...but it was so overwhelming she knew if she didn't keep moving....she wouldn't make it. So she walked down with several people holding hands and they did make it out. She lived in Brooklyn and walked much of the way before getting a ride home. Her husband was actually in CA at the time. Fortunately...she did make contact with him early on so he knew she was safe. We heard from her late in the afternoon on 9/11.
That day touched our life in a way as well. I was leaving my job voluntarily on 9/30 that year. I was planning on getting pregnant (which I did) and open my daycare. My husband had a very good job and we were certainly able to live on what he made. After 9/11....my husband was in the stock transfer/corporate reorganization business....directly linked to the stock market. My husbands company felt the impact hard...and my husband was laid off on 10/5/01. He walked through our front door on that Friday afternoon at exactly 2 pm with a look on his face I will never forget. 1 week to the day I had left my job. If we would have known....I would have never left. I could also have supported us on my salary alone.....but sometimes you don't get a warning.
My husband is an amazing and resourcful man. He opened up his own business....and 4 years later....we are still standing. Our lives are much different now that I am home but we have got to spend so much more time together as a family it has definitly been worth it. His office is only 1 mile from our house...so he comes home for lunch...he has got to attend many of Daniels therapies and be there for everything. Sometimes things just have a way of working themselves out.
Wow...I really got off track with that answer.
And finally....what is in my purse? Not too much. I carry the small coach scribbles bag so it has some diapers/wipes..my wallet and some lip gloss...because shiny lips are very important!!
