Mikey doesn't share. It's an autism thing. The idea that the people around you are people and that you should give up something you want for someone else is difficult.
Saturdays are a busy day for Mikey. First he has a four-hour socialization program where he does art, music, and play-time with other kids with Down syndrome and then he goes to Music Therapy for thirty minutes. When I picked him up at the end of the socialization program he directed me to the candy machine and asked for cookies. So I bought him a bag of Chips Ahoy and off we went for the 20-minute drive to Molloy College. When we arrived at the Music Therapy office, Mikey immediately went up to his therapist, Reika, and handed her the bag containing the last cookie and then gave her a hug. Michel and I were in shock. Reika and the other therapists were in shock. Mikey had given a gift to his therapist. He demonstrated his capacity for sharing and love. And he demonstrated that Reika was truly reaching into him through music. Mikey went on to have one of his best sessions ever... playing drums and piano and even singing. Thank you Reika! Thank you Rebecca Center!

awww that is so sweet...sounds like he is growing and maturing a bit...Courtney sounds identical to him...she just recently started sharing. I really noticed this when she shared some of her Nacho Cheese Doritos with me and Gerritt about a month ago. I had to give her a big hug and high fives cuz she was being so nice...since then, she wantes to share everything...well....SOME...lol
Thanks for sharing!!
