Hi Everyone!
I just booked our rooms for the convention even though it is still 7 months away. We are going to save up so we can make it a big family vacation before the school year. We plan on arriving on Thursday and then go to Worlds of Fun or Oceans of Fun on Friday with the kids. We are extremely excited for our trip and can't wait to meet some of you.
So, my question.....We booked the rooms at The Westin(hotel the convention is at) but I am wondering for those of you that have looked into this if there is a more cost effective route to go as far as hotels go that are in that vicinity(not familiar with KC at all). I know The Westin has some darn good rates and the location seems pretty good but I'm Dutch and like to save money where ever I can.
Maybe when the time gets closer we can get a big group and possibly get some group rates for Oceans of Fun or Worlds of Fun on that Friday? Rates are anywhere from 27.00-37.00 ages 3+ but I think it would be well worth it.
Thanks and hope to see you there!!

Looks like the convention rate is $109 a night. It's always better to be at the convention site.

I was just talking about this with DH today. We lloked up the price and will stay at the convention site too (much easier that way). We plan to stay a while as well to visit friends and just have fun. Oceans of fun sounds great! is the convention fri-sun on just sat and sun? do you know the cost per person? and what do you get? Sorry, we missed last year and we are not sure what to expect. Thanks for any ifo you have.

Awesome! So glad that I went ahead and booked a room on site. I think I'll go ahead and book a couple more for the rest of the family to join us.
Sounds like a great time!

I can't go this year either! Our Big Golf TOurnament and Dance with Chris Burke and band is here the very next weekend. SO ANyone who ISN"T going to the convention feel free to come here! There are people from all over coming to it!
ANyway, from experience I say stay at the hotel where the convention is! I tried to stay with Family in Atlanta this year, and it worked okay, but by the third night ended up just getting a room(at a better rate than convention rate too) for the last night or so! Good luck!-Courtney

We're going also! I booked our room a couple months ago! We're staying Thursday-Monday this year. We didn't get to see much of Atlanta, so I wanted to be able to stay longer this year and see some of Kansas City.

It is only a 4 1/2 hour drive for us and we plan on staying from Wednesday-Sunday. I'm SOOOOO very excited!! I just checked out the pictures from last years convention. Looks like an awesome time!
Hope to see you all there!!

Oh I want to go so bad. I don't know how I'll swing it, but I sure want to go! I'd be bringing Angela, and if I can figure out a way I'll bring a PCA along as well.

There are a FEW of us in St Louis heehee
We booked our rooms just a bit ago ourselves. Although I've been with a group at the STL convention (NDSS) years ago, we didn't really DO the convention.. and we were sad to miss last year's NDSC....soooooo Kevin and I truly plan on actually DOING the convention. I will be taking all 3 kids and my oldest will probably help watching the kids while Kevin and I do some of the convention. I don't know how much of the convention we will do but I am truly hoping Dr. Capone will do a Friday session again like last year... that is the ONLY reason I really want to go! I'd give ANYTHING for Russell to meet him too actually!
We only are 3 1/2 hours from the convention.. we will be going Thurs afternoon until Sunday afternoon.

Im going. I have had my rooms booked for several months now lol. We will be staying Thurs-Monday as well. Just an FYI...I reserved the HUGE entertainment suite for ROA (my other board) and it would be neat to share it with folks from here, too, give us all a meeting place to hang and chill with the kids. I am extending an invitation to all who want to join us, bring a bag of chips and a soda or juice, and come hang with us!

It's obviously time to start discussing the convention. So I have a brand new forum set up to discuss your plans. I'm moving this thread there.

Courtney, Which site did you find that on? I can't seem to find anything under $250 per person.
Does anyone know of any good sites to use for Airline tickets. I looked up the driving time and its 17 hours. I don't think I could last 17 hours in a car with my mom and Nolan. LOL!

we only use southwest.. they seem to have the best deals by far! Unfortunately Southwest doesn't go EVERYWHERE.. but they can get pretty close even if you have to drive to get that deal sometimes I got a kickin deal when I went to FL to see Chrstina.

Anyone interested in driving in from the NorthEast? Or sharing a room? It would probably only be Maeve and I as that is a very busy time for Sean with construction. And I am not sure about managing flying - not the flying part, but the carrying her and ner carseat and luggage, etc.... I would really like to go though....

Ginny,
Another option is, if my family doesn't go, I have two ajoining rooms... we can get a few women to share them. Heck, if you can't find someone else to share and you don't mind sharing with my whole family-- we will have an extra bed. I just thought it would be toooo much to fit 6 of us in one room for several days!!! My kids would love to room with your cute little butterball. If not- you have to catch up with us so they can say hello!

Thanks Adrienne for the southwest info. I looked online but there are not booking flight that far in advance. But the good news is that what they are booking for the flight is around $160 roundtrip!
See you all in Kansas City, MO!

YAY! I'm so glad there are so many of us going!! I can't wait to meet all of you.
It would have been a blast if we could have blocked off a whole floor obviously depending on how many rooms are on a floor for everyone on the downsyn forum. That would mean it would be one big party!!
Wouldn't that be a hoot?

Ok, room booked. It will just be me coming. The only room left is for two double-beds, so if someone wants to be roommates, that would work out. I just checked flights and they are about $170, so not too bad. I think it may just work!
