to worry about tonsils? Hunter had strep again last week and the ped had said his tonsils still look a little big. So I made a comment to Hunter that he better quit getting strep, and the doc said 'ya, or we'll have to get those tonsils out soon too.' We already had an appointment with the ENT scheduled for this Tues, so I'll talk to him too, but I'm wondering what made the final decision for all the kids with their tonsils out. One of my docs at work said he thought it was getting strep 3-5 times in a year, but was quick to add that he isn't a ped

With both girls it was several cases of step in a year. With AJ she had scarlet fever several times and I asked for her tonsils to be taken out. She has not had strep in over a year now.

Tonsils can be removed for a variety of reasons. Strep, tonsilitis , sinus issues and enlarged tonsils causing obstructions. I think it really depends on the DR and the child. I don't think there is a "rule" on when to take them. Hannah had hers removed at age five because she had chronic sinus infections and also sleep apnea.
