I don't post here often but read post and talk to different people on fb. For those of you who don't know Ramsey's medical history, he has had 4 surgeries and 13 hospitalizations. All of the hospitalizations have been due to respitory problems due to aspirating. except this time it is due to severe dehydratin from diarrhea.

On Wednesday, I had to pick him up from daycare due to having diarrhea. He didn't have any diarrhea after I picked him up but had to take him to the Dr. anyway. I wasn't even at work on Thursday before day before I had to pick him up again so I took him back to the Dr. on Thursday. Friday was terrible! The diarrhea was so bad that it was coming out like water. (I used a size 3 big pack of diapers in 2 days). I didn't take him to the Dr. Friday but called her. Of course I was told to bring him to the clinic on Saturday morning. Well needless to say, she quckly admitted him to the hospital for dehydration. (He just got out of the hospital a month ago).

It has taken him since Saturday to get back hydrated. Oh by the way they keep telling me that I don't know how sick he was. He was put back on food this morning and only ate a few spoonfuls of baby food but drank about 5 ounces of Peptamen Jr. and guess what....yes the diarrhea came back. The Dr. ordered more bloodwork and test. For the past 2 days he's had to have bloodwork every 4 hours. He will sit up for a few minutes but will not pull up and sleeps all the time. When he's awake, he just lays there chewing on his finger.

I don't have time for trial and error anymore. This is crazy. I am a single parent and finacially I just cannot afford to sit up here another week. I guess my question is what kind of test should I be asking for? Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would assume that they have a GI consult....... in the hospital..... if not ask for one NOW!

I like the blood test....... I would be interested in the results......

Also out of the blue..... have you tested your water at your house or apartment to see if there are any issues there that are affecting him cause he is littler (like an ameboe or other infection or contaminent) you can usually do a free test at the public health department.

I can say this is not a problem we have had at our house...... we have had plenty of diarehhea run through the kids I think the longest was week.

I would ask what you can do to stop this....... if it is food induced...... can you change his formula and items to extra calorie...... will this give him a failure to thrive diagnosis......

Good luck and I know it sucks.......

I agree with Jane - CBC would be the first thing I would want, but the GI consult should be done also. There are so many things with diarrhea - celiac disease, viruses, medications, lactose intolerance are just some. Mark was on peptamen jr for a week and had both diarrhea and vomiting. Also, is Ramsey tube-fed? - I was thinking this because of all the aspirating. Mark is tube-fed and this has helped tremendously with keeping him hydrated. We will keep him in our prayers - let us know how he is doing.

First, hugs to you!

Yes, GI doc right away. Full consult. CBC. Celiac screening. Stool sample to check for parasites.

I'm so sorry you and Ramsey are going through this. Sad

He has already had the failure to thrive diagnosis last year when he got a g tube. He is able to eat by mouth to, however he is still aspirating on liquids. He already has a GI Dr. which we saw last week. They thought that he might be lactose intolerant so they put him on Prosobee. That's not the case because he still has diarrhea. He's in the hospital and still has diarrhea.

If there was a problem with the water at home, wouldn't I be sick too?

He's been tested for everything but celiac so maybe I should have him tested for that.

Yes he should be tested for Celiac Disease. My son has it and if ANY gluten gets into his system I know right away because he has diarhea that night. Also I would try a formula that is gluten free as well as lactose free. I personally use Similac Sensitive for my babies (it's gluten and lactose free). Recently I was told to add Thicken up to his pediasure and that caused diarhea twice a day and it was starting to get worse, so I stopped giving it to him...apparently that is corn starch and the dietician said it could be too much sugar.

Have they tested for C. Diff? That's the only other thing I can think of.
