i was looking at the Ds chart for growth and going by rachel's current growth, she'll be in 12 month clothes still when she is 18 months. do you find that these charts are good indicatiors of your child's growth? there is a big sale at carters for all their summer stuff and i would like to get things for next summer if possible.

It is SO hard to telll how they are going to grow. Even with my typical daughter....she flew past some sizes and stalled out at others for 2 or more seasons. It would be SO hard to tell where she would be next summer.

My son is 5 and pretty much his size was the same as he age. He's in a 4T-5T now, and will be 5 in a few weeks. At 2 he was in a 2T...3..he was in a 3T

However, my son is very thin in the waist so everything has to have an adjustable waist. My guess for your daughter is 2T for next summer. How long has she been in 12 months? If she just got there...then 2T...but if she's been stalled at 12 months for awhile....she might surprise you and sprout up a bit more between now and next summer. Next size would be 18 months...then 24 month-2T (which is basically the same most times).

I love a good sale...but sometimes it's too hard to guess where they will be. Good luck and happy shopping!!!

I made an educated guess (based on the charts) last fall for summer clothes for this year. I figured by weight (since height doesn't matter as much with shorts and dresses) she should be in 3-6 month clothes now, so we got about half 6 months and half 6-12s.

By weight she should be in 6 months (barely, but she is). However, her 3-6 months clothes are HUGE. In fact, I had to go and buy 3 month shorts last week because there was no way I could fake the 6 month ones. And they're STILL huge- we have to feed more elastic in the waists.

Despite that, I've still bought up for next winter going by the chart. She's always stayed fairly even on it, so I'm just assuming that it stays that way. I have heard, though, that kids with Ds are less likely to follow a curve (there's more sporadic growth than typical kids).

I have a feeling that, one of these days, I'll have an entire season of clothes that won't fit. But in the mean time, I can't rationalize NOT getting stuff on sale the year before- we get a lot nicer clothes for a lot less! Summer is definitely an easier season to work with- there's a lot more wiggle room when you don't have to worry about width AND length! (On that note- have you heard of dapper snappers? We're going to make some for next fall- she'll need the longer length, but she's got such a tiny waist. It can add a little more flexibility with sizes, too!)

Good luck!

Noah took over a year to go from 12mth clothing to 18mth. In fact, he just got into 18mth clothing a couple of months ago...and he was in 12 months clothing for...oh I think close to 2 years.

It is a guessing game, just like for any child!

Last summer Nichole could wear 9-12 month clothing, even though she was 1 1/2. Now she might be able to wear 2T but mainly she is wearing 3T (ahem....because her belly is SO BIG! lol) So amazingly we skipped 2Ts Smile

ok, i think i may be confusing people....
right now rachel is at the edge of getting out of her 3-6 month clothes (she'll be gestationally 6 months tomorrow) She is a little over 14 pounds. if i go by the growth chart in the Ds book with her current growth curve, by the begining of next summer, when she is 18 months, she should be in 12 month clothes. so what i'm saying is.....should i go by the growth curve in the Ds book when buying clothes for the future?

piper is the same length as rachel but rachel has some pounds on her.... a little waist she does not have a problem with! lol!

its hard to guess, When Ben wore 3-6mths he seemed to be in them for a long time then he went into 6-9mths. He was literally in them about 2 months when he had a growth spurt, he's now in 9-12mths in trousers/jeans and still in 6-9mths on top.

Aimee -
That's what happened to me! Ha Ha! I am just now going through my daughter's things - she literally has 4 times more clothing than her brothers.

Maggie -
I think you would be safe to follow the ds chart for buying clothing for Rachel. Mark has stayed basically in the bottom half of the chart and has been following a curve on that. I have not seen a huge jump in either direction yet for him.

Talitha is just starting to fit into 3 year old clothes (only the jeans with adjustable waist and some tops) and she is 4.5.

She still fits into some 2 year old pants and her shoes are size 5 which would usually fit a 2 year old.

Usually second hand baby clothes are in good condition because they grow out of them so fast but most of hers wore out!!!!!

She is only now putting on some weight although she has always looked healthy - just small. Very Happy

Ethan's stayed pretty much on the low end of the DS chart and clothes wise is still in smaller sizes. Ethan is now 29 mths and has a combination of 12-18mths for tops and 9-12 and 12-18 mths for bottoms. (depending on which store their from)

I would make that guess for next Summer but don't go overboard as it is a chance you take. I think it is a bit easier to make the guess in a few years if she continues along the same curve. Nate is almost 6....last summer he was wearing size 2 and 3 size shorts. He need a 4 this summer but they need to have an adjustable waiste...made the mistake yesterday by putting on some size 4 shorts without and poor kid kept dropping them all day long at school. Gave him lost of practice pulling up shorts!!!! Nate is in the 50% for height to weight ratio...on the standard height to weight ratio chart....I believe he is following the 25% curve for children with Ds, but don't quote me on that.

In my opinion, I wouldn't shop for next year, this year. Only because they can hit a fast growing spurt or stand still with their growth. Just shop for now. Last year Austin was in 0-3 month cloths and still can fit in them and also now can fit in 6-9 month and he's 20 months. I think growth is something you can't predict. Kids can grow like weeds at times and trees at others. Very Happy

You never know if they will stay on the same curve, that is the problem. I can't even guess as to what size Noah will be next year, same thing with my other kids though, my kids other than Noah are all on the top of the growth charts...but seriously my 6 year old flew through sizes 6 & 6x...and he JUST turned 6...he wears a size 7, go figure, and my 8 year old just grew out of a size 7...so I never recommend buying clothes for the next year, unless they are a great deal and you plan on or have other kids that can wear them in case it doesn't work out with the child you intended them for lol

Good plan! I agree that it may be a gamble to spend money on clothes for next year that she may not fit into. Etta wore her 12 month size footie pj's for SO long (nearly a year) that they started getting holes in the toe area. She finally JUST moved into the 18 month size. She'll be 2 on Tuesday.

Also keep in mind that that cute summer dress from this season will make a cute top over jeans next spring/summer! That also works the other way around.. if you see a cute top, you might be able to get a larger size this summer, tack the straps down and have her wear it as a dress this season and a top next season!

This was a 12 month top that she wore as a dress when she was 6 weeks. This summer (at 23 months) she wears it as a top!

I'm not much help...LC was wearing around a 3 month last summer (when she was 9 months) and now at 20 months is wearing a size 9 month. So...

I would vote to get dresses. If they end up fitting in warm weather, great. If not, they'll look cute over jeans or long-sleeved onesies with legwarmers in the cooler months.

I wish OUR Carter's was having a killer sale...
