Well...this might seem a little odd and I am getting increasingly concerned as his doctor continues to tell me its nothing to worry about. But Joaquin for over 6 months when he wakes up in the morning he has SEVERLY dry cracked lips with skin hanging off...I have to use warm compresses to remove the skin...now over the past week he has woken up with bloody lips...along with the cracking and peeling....he never has this during the day ONLY IN MORNING????!!! Anyone else experience this???

Oh how aweful. I wish I had some input for you. Praying you can get some answers soon. Does he sleep with his mouth open breathing through the mouth?

I'd try to add some petrolium jelly to his lips, like vaseline. Does he over heat when he's asleep? Sounds like when you dehydrate and your lips chap. Poor wee mite, it must be sore and uncomfortable for him.

Mark frequently has the same problem. He gets a big bloody crack in the middle of his upper lip. We use blistex dct or blistex lip medex. It seems to cling better than vaseline. The DCT is more gentle than the lip medex. I have to wait until Mark is asleep to apply it. If I forget he wakes with cracks in his lips. I think it's because he breathes through his mouth at night.

Angela too! I think it's from her mouth breathing all night, and her whole mouth just dries out. I use aquaphor on her lips, which is the consistency of vaseline, but is water based so it absorbs into the skin better. It helps some, but doesn't completely eliminate the problem.

Oliver gets that from time to time. I think it's because he breaths with his mouth open. It is definitely worse when he is sick and stuffy.
We use Aquafor lotion. It is very effective!!! For us, it takes care of the problem.

Try using chapstick, the brand, it works the best imo (i have had to wear chapstick since childhood) it's the only one that works for me. I use it on my kids when they need it too, strawberry flavour seems to be the favourite. Noah wakes up chapped as well from mouth breathing.

use vaseline. my gums used to bleed but i brushed my teeth day and night and finally one dentist told me that because i sleep with my mouth open, my gums are getting dried out. he told me to rub vaseline on my gums before i went to bed. try it, hope that helps!

REALLY??? Mine bleed a lot, too! I am a mouth breather and am going to try this! Thanks.
Does he do any breathing treatments? Ava's lips crack at night when we do breathing treatments. Even with cleaning her face after.

A humidifier in the room might help, too.

A humidifier is a good idea. So are all of the other suggestions. Personally, my favorite lip fix is Carmex, but it tastes kind of yucky.
