Just wondering what the position position for baby to sleep in is. I've been told that extended lengths of time on back is not good. Tummy to sleep is not recommended either. I can't seem to get my 3mth old to stay on her side. Any suggestions about sleeping position please.

We used blankets on both sides to keep the baby on her side.

for much we tried to have elias sleep on his side, he always flipped to top or bottom. so we decided to let him sleep however he feel comfortable. of course being my 1st baby i was checking him allways , but yes he loved to sleep on his back

I had found a sleep positioner at our local store that allowed the baby to be positioned on their side and keep them there until they are strong enough to roll out of it.
We had also used blankets rolled up to help keep them in this position. Many times, I would take a top blanket and once the baby is in postion wrap and tuck the blanket around him/her and the blankets/positioner to help aid in keeping them in that position.
I too would position them on their left side one night, then the right side the next.

We still use one of those sleep positioners that has the wedges on either side of baby. We also bought a crib width wedge for under her head to keep fluid out of her ears and help with reflux. We asked her ped about sleeping on her back all the time (her head was getting a really bad flat spot) and he said as long as she turns her head from side to side in her sleep it is enough variation when they are really young.
Natalie still sleeps on her back and the flat spot is not really there at all anymore. Once they start hanging out on their tummy's a lot it helps the head round back out quickly. I hope that helps.

Angela was a severe refluxer and aspirator. She slept on her tummy (at the recommendation of her GI who said her risk of suffocating from aspirating WAS far greater than her risk of SIDS) until she was about 6 months old when she went into a Danny sling and an inclined crib.

Both my girls were always tummy sleepers. If I put them on their backs they would sleep 20 min and on the tummy was 2 house. When they can rollover, they sleep however they want.

Talitha prefers to sleep on her back. I tried rolled up towels etc to get her to sleep on her side with some success. I put one along her back to keep her from rolling onto her back and one around her tummy with one leg propped over it to stop her rolling onto her tummy. That worked until she started rolling properly. Now I just let her sleep how she wants - on her back.

Ours all found there own positions pretty quickly and no amount of trying to get them to sleep in a particular postion was very sucessful (I didn't go as far as trying duct tape though )
