I have been reading/posting on Baby Center Ds boards. However, the topic of Nutrivene seems to be a hot topic so I am glad I found this site.

My son is about 5 1/2 mos. old and we started him on Nutrivene about a month ago. Afterwards, I read about other parents whose kiddos had severe reactions to it. I must say I still worry whether or not giving it to him is the right decision but I really think he's doing soo much better since starting it. He is much more active, alert, started rolling over and can sit unattended for a few seconds (hey, it's a start).

Is there anything specific I need to watch for as far as side effects? He is constipated but I give him prunes & Karo syrup for that. He's also very congested sounding but his lungs, etc. are clear so I am not sure what that's all about.

Any advice is appreciated.

Welcome! You might want to subscribe to the Yahoo DSTNI listserv. It is all about Down syndrome and TNI (mostly Nutrivene) and Dr. Leichtman also posts on there as well.

I think the biggest side effect in the beginning is the diarhhea from the daily supplement, which it doesn't sound like Cameron has that problem. Not all kids do. The only other really thing we noticed at first was that Payton was a lot more alert, but once her body adjusted, she was fine. That was because I missed the part about "slowly" introducing it...oops! I am not aware of any other side effects and we haven't had any problems. My daughter has been on it since 3 months of age. It sounds to me like Cameron is doing great!
