AOI AAI Surgery on Tuesday March 10th

My little darling Monica is undergoing the same type of surgery as the Blessed little Kennedy went through last July. (hope it is ok Renee to use your names).

She is getting c1 to c3 fused along with using a "Ransford loop" to attach and secure the vertebrea to the back bottom of her skull.
She will be in the halo cast for three months for fusion.

I want to thank little Kennedy and Renee for paving the road to this type of surgery by posting pictures and journaling your experience.
Because of your hard efforts, I feel going through this surgery with Monica will be easier because of the experience you had shared. Thank you!!

Please pray for safe and secure surgery and speedy and pain free
recovery.
Also pray that mom does not have anxiety attack in the hospital and panic. This whole thing is all in Gods hands. I humble myself before you Lord.

Her surgery is at 8am on Tuesday March 10th at Childrens hospital in Minneapolis by Dr Mahmoud Nagib.
Pray,,, and thank you !!

Thank you.

Oh my goodness! We will be praying for you. I had no idea that Kenn wasn't the only child 'designed' with this type of an instability! Princess Monica is unique as well! Keep us posted! {{{HUGS}}}

Praying here, too! I was thinking I'd come today for a visit but my youngest is home sick so it's not going to happen. I also realized I wouldn't know who to ask for other than Monica who just had neck stabilization surgery! PM me with your last name if you'd like me to try to stop by. We're always there Monday afternoons for PT so I should be there next Monday for sure.

Hope everything is going well. Please update when you get a chance.

I will definitely be praying for Monica's quick recovery.

My daughter, Katie, also had a C1 -C3 fusion when she was three years old. She was in the halo brace for three months and while it was not a fun experience, it ended up not being as hard as we expected. I hope you will find it to be the same for you.

God bless,
Deane

Hi,

I am so glad to hear this news. It is so strange how no one really has any information to give me about what to do. They put the halo on and say,,, ok, clean pins twice a day, and dont get the lambs wool wet. Plus there is not real information about the actual surgery either. It took alot of digging and I found only one articule that was helpful and it was all medical talk, and really over my head.

What is Kate's mobility? What does she look like? Does she have scars? What was her position of sleeping she liked best. It is just the little questions.............
No one has told me how she gets up and off a couch or bed, or anything like this. Did you get any help when Kate got out of hospital?
Is this whole new adventure just a hit and miss kinda thing and you just learn as you go along?

thanks for your reply.
