I just got an official diagnosis today and am a little freaked out. So far all I know is that I will likely deliver by c-section between 36 and 37 weeks unless I wake up in a pool of blood before than. My ob sent me for a steroid shot today, a second tomorrow, to boost fetal lung maturity. The only other person I know to experience this was in the hospital on bed rest for 2 months, several severe bleeds, before delivering at almost 34 weeks. Has anyone out there experienced this with less drama? I really need some encouragement.
My ob asked me why I was incapable of normal deliveries. This will make 3 out of 3 that didn't/don't go by the book.

He should be better able to answer this question....not you! LOL!
My friend delivered her first baby with PP. She was taken into the hospital earlier and confined to bed rest for a few weeks. One morning she had a bleed and she was taken to surgery immediately. She only lived 5 minutes from the hospital but they wouldn't let her home. Too risky for the baby.
This is one time in your life when you have do as you are told my friend!
I know its not what you wanted for your third delivery....but what can you do!
Just think of the joy when you meet your new baby for the first time! It will be worth it!
I will pray all goes welll.

I had it with two of my pregnancies. The first one it happened with, we watched the placenta very closely, and it slowly grew towards the back of my uterus, with the very edge of the placenta at the cervix. I delivered vaginally without any problems.
The second one (Angela) was an emergency c-section anyway. I'd had a partial ubruption at 16 weeks, and at 35 weeks the placenta just stopped functioning. But, that was due to to the abruption, not the previa.

Not sure this will help, but my placenta previa was during delivery with Sarah. She did have a rush of blood to her system and ended up very 'red' as a baby. She had some breathing issues at first. They kept her in nicu for a couple of hours, but she was fine. The reddish tan faded after a month or so.
I'd do everything they tell you to do. It can be very, very serious.
Keep us posted.

My PP was with my first pregnancy. For some reason, my OB never detected it. I was planning a normal, vaginal birth without an induction.
On my due date, I woke up at 5:30 w/a gush. I assumed it was my water breaking and I was so excited! Imagine my horror when I rushed to the toilet to find blood. But it really wasn't all that much. We called the OB and he said to just keep an eye on it.
In two days, it happened again, so my OB sent me to L&D. But they checked me for dilation and I was barely fingertip, and not effaced at all. At two days overdue.
Three days later, it happened again and my OB had me come into his office. He did an internal ultrasound and saw that I had a placenta previa. At five days overdue. I had a C-section that afternoon.
But honestly? Up until my due date (which you'll never even make it to), I was perfectly fine. No bleeding, no bed rest. I worked like normal.

My friend had it and was on bed rest for several weeks before she delivered by c-section at about 32 weeks. She had another condition as well which complicated everything. She had one bleed which alerted them to the placenta previa but none after that. Take it easy!

It's a miracle. The previa is gone and I no longer need a c-section. While I am very happy to no longer need surgery, I was looking forward to being done with this pregnancy in a little over a week.
Thanks to all of you for your shared experiences. I was a little more relaxed after reading them.

I've got 4 more weeks, but still hoping this little girl will come on her own in the next 2 weeks. Henry was 34 weeks and Ramona was 37.

Great to hear. I was about to post and say that as my uterus grew, the Placenta "moved" resolving the issue.
Great news!

As it turns out, I will be having this baby in the next 2 weeks. I'm far enough along in the dliation/effacement process that my doc agreed to induce me while my mother is here to help. I'll still need an amnio (to verify fetal lung maturity), possibly the 19th, with an induction on the 22nd. I'm still hoping my water will break next week. This baby's head is killing me.

So glad to hear everything is progressing well. I just wanted to add my experience too. I had a complete previa which the OB said the chance of it moving was ZERO. I freaked of course....and it moved completely out of the way, with a so-called normal delivery.
Good luck and keep us posted as to how you are feeling!!
