I apologize that it has been so long in getting back here to post an update on our son. For the newest members I will re-cap a little.
Our son was electrocuted in Iraq on his first tour of duty. He had only been there for a few months. They were on patrol, and as an Infantryman, his group was always the first in to patrol the situation. It was during a patrol that the driver thought he could safely go under a set of power lines. My son was on top of the vehicle with a machine gun attached to the vehicle.... his weapon was caught by the electric wires and electrocuted my son because he was holding onto the weapon. He was thrown from the vehicle for several feet, and was knocked unconscious.
We did not know for about a week what his condition was after the initial few days of not knowing if he was going to live or die... he was flown to Germany, then from their back to his home base station. We were able to then go see him.... he was able to come home on leave for a few months before going back to base. It was decided that he would be discharged....
He has recovered from the physical wounds- his boots and socks had melted to his feet, and his hands were burned where the metal contacted his hands. He still has some hearing loss, and his vision in one eye is now being clouded by the development of a cateract which resulted from the shock.... so he will be facing cateract surgery at some point in the future. He came home initially with pretty bad nightmares, not only of just having to do his job, but by the other things he saw while there, and compounded by the electrocution. These have greatly diminished.... and he's doing well with much support.
He has met a wonderful young lady, and it's looking like she might be his life mate.... we think the world of her and support them helping them to learn to build communication.....
Over the past year, there was a roller coaster of emotions, then in September I went through several biopsies with one coming back pre-cancerous.... with much praise, I am cancer free, but will just have close monitoring to make sure the pre-cancerous cells doesn't return or if they do, to have them removed again ( pre-cancerous bowel polyps) sorry to sound gross.
I feel wonderful, and have my energy back.... I am excited to see what the coming year has to bring.... we are hoping and praying that there will be a new little blessing in pink.... but it is in the Lords hands and not ours. We are content in all things, even during the times when it seems like windows are opened but to find them closed.... it hurts, but we can rest in the knowledge that all things work together for our good.
Many hugs to all,
baileyshome

Great update!
What a difference a few months, good medical care and the love of family and friends can make! I am glad your son is in recovery now.
He is one of the lucky ones!

2009 has been a year of many changes....but definately times of growing and trusting that all things work together for our good. If it weren't for the tears and trials and climbing the mountains we wouldn't have the times of sunshine and joy on the mountain tops....
My goal for 2010 is to make it here and check in more often..... I miss everyone, although I do read often to keep up with all the precious families here at the forum.
Hugs to all,

Hi, I'm glad to hear that your son has recovered phsyically, I'm sure that emotionally that'll take years to recover from. He's a very lucky man to survive an electrocution! I hope that things work out for him and his lady friend. He deserves some happiness now!
