Hearing Aids

We have just found out that Samara's hearing is moderately to severely impared, and she will be needing hearing aids.
Has anyone else had to get these for their kids, and if so how on earth did you get them to wear them??
Samara is 23 months old, and we haven't even been able to get her to keep earplugs in since she had grommets 4 weeks ago!
I am feeling pretty bummed out about the whole thing. I had held high hopes that getting the grommets would make a big difference to her, but no such luck....

Angela has worn hearing aids since she was 11 months old. She has a moderate bilateral hearing loss. Hearing aids are far different than ear plugs! Ear plugs are uncomfortable, and distort sound. Also, here in the U.S. kids don't wear ear plugs with their ear tubes anymore. I have ear tubes myself and don't wear plugs either. Just no submerging of the head allowed.

The key to hearing aid usage is making sure the aids are programmed correctly. Make sure she gets open fit aids if they will work for her type of hearing loss. Here's a link to an old blog post I did about hearing aids:

Remember that hearing aids are no different than needing glasses as far as how "bad" they are. The hardest thing we've had to deal with is Angela's ears are so tiny, and she also wears glasses, that she can't wear hearing aids, AND glasses, AND headbands! LOL

My daughter with ds does not having hearing aids but my newest baby Faith has mild bilateral hearing loss and she has been wearing hearing aids for about a month and she is 6 months old. It gets frustrating at times getting her to leave them alone. I have used head bands at times and we are getting a cap that will cover her ears and tie under her chin. I figure one of these days she will stop pulling them out and putting them in her mouth!!!

Alexis has hearing aids also. There is a huge difference in her since we got them. She had surgery in june on her left ear and right ear needed a tube. They thought they were going to have to do a implant but was desided to do hearing aids for left ear since she has some hearing (not much) her right ear is sever hearing loss also. So she has them in both ears. She is 5 and was just doing baby talk now since had aids(got them in July) she is saying 3 and 4 words together and short sentences. Its amazing how well she has done with them. I just wish the doctors we were seeing when she was a baby would have done something then maybe at 5 she wouldnt be so behind on speech. She loves her aids and doesnt want them off at all. You will see big changes in her
