Well this is so frustrating...I mean I know the kid can crawl...He's just being so lazy! He will get up on all 4's and then plop down and army crawl..He was starting to 4pt. crawl a few weeks ago now he's back to army crawling...what should I do??? He's still into EVERYTHING!!! He even went for the fire place last night...I mean booked it!!! Anyone have any ideas on how to get him back to 4pt crawling? Or should I just let it go? He will stand and stand forever...up against stuff, playing at a table or holding on to things...should I be concerned?

Have you tried putting obstacles in his way that he has to get up on all fours to get over? If he really wants something I bet he'll do it.

I'm no expert but I reckon he'll go back to 4pt crawl when he feels like it. Maybe a physiotherapist would have some tips if you are worried.

Sean's only been 4 pt crawling for 2 mos, so this is fairly familiar to me. The first month, he often army crawled when he was in a hurry to get somewhere. I think he was just used to doing that and his arms were not strong enough yet to support him moving so fast.

Now he 4 pt crawls 95% of the time, every now and then he drops to his belly. He's gotten so fast, too!

Also, this is kinda funny. He used to love to hold onto our hands and walk places. Now that he is crawling so fast, we can't hardly get him to walk anymore. We stand him up and he just gets all jelly legged so that he can drop down into crawling. He still loves to pull up to stuff and stand playing or cruise around a table.

He probably discovered that he can get into things faster by doing the army crawl right now. The good news is that he is willing to get into 4 point. Alex used to fight it big time and I actually gave up and believed that he would go straight from army to walking. Keep encouraging the 4 point to build his upper body strength (your PT can probably give some good suggestions). I'm sure he will start doing it again when he can figure out how to do it FAST .

Robert seemed to do the army crawl for so long. In the last few weeks he has discovered the four point one. I now catch him doing a mix of the two. I think more of the army one still.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. The fact that he's doing the four point is what's important.

I think they all kind of go back and forth depending on need, fatigue, speed, etc. Avery mostly bear crawls everywhere, but I catch her sometimes when she is tired or in a new place she may combat crawl again. When she first learned to bear crawl she would just do it a bit and when she wanted to get somewhere fast she would soldier crawl again. Maybe he has learned that he can combat faster to get where he wants to go. I think it takes a bit more strength, maybe he does the combat when he gets a bit tired. The other thing I thought of is that maybe he has moved to a different area of learning like speech or fine motor. Does he seem to be picking up words or signs more now. It seems like when that happens, they slack off a bit in other areas. Avery was really copying words and signing like crazy and now it seems like she barely does that at all. she is moving around like mad now just not talking. I would just let him do what he is doing and see if he comes back to stronger crawling or bear crawl again. He will when he is ready. I know it is hard not to worry. I keep thinking lately that Avery has lost her speech, but she is just focused on moving now and it will come back...probably right where she left off or even a bit further ahead!

Lexi did the same thing. We just let her go back to combat crawling and a few weeks later she was back up on all 4's and has been there since.
