I lurk and occasionally post over at the NADS board. There is a little four year old boy named Ryan whose mother posts on that board who is in a bad way. In addition to DS, Ryan started suffering from seizures and is now in a coma on life support. They are trying him on the special diet (I forget what you call it), but it doesn't look too good. This family lost an older son earlier this year, and have a younger boy who has DS that they adopted after Ryan was born. Please pray for Ryan and his family and pass this on to anyone who could add their prayers. He is in a coma and his eyes are no longer dialating when light is flashed in them. His parents are being given very little hope. I must have the wrong address although I checked it twelve times. As an update, as of Sunday, Ryan is not doing any better and the doctors don't know what to do. Wanted to update you all. Ryan is doing slightly better and the doctors are going to try to bring him out of the medically induced coma. They are really afraid that he has suffered brain damage as a result of this series of seizures that precipitated his hospitalization (apparently had hundreds of them within a short period of time so that is why they put him in the coma in the first place). I wanted to update you on Ryan and ask that you continue to pray for this little boy. The doctors say his prognosis is very poor. He has had so many seizures that they think extensive brain damage has occurred and that he may never speak, recognize people, or have an awareness of his own self. Please pray for him and his family--they have been through a lot this year between Ryan and losing an older child. I just read an update on Ryan. They are starting to bring him out of sedation, and he has opened his eyes a few times and wiggled his hands and feet a little. The doctors don't know what to expect as far as brain damage, but his mom is starting to feel the slighest bit more hopeful. She thanks everyone for their prayers and asks that they keep praying. Update on Ryan: He is doing better, has been put on a trach to breath and a g tube for nourishment. He is going to be transferred from the ICU to a step down unit, then a couple of weeks at a rehab hospital then home. They think he is going to make it, but they also thing he has had some significant injury, not sure how much. He is still being sedated, but is somewhat responsive to stimuli.
