Angry

I took Caitie in to see her pediatrician 2 weeks ago b/c her eyes were all gunky and I KNEW it was a blocked tear duct and I also wanted to get a referral (all you with HMO'S know about referrals) for her to go see a pediatric allergy and asthma doctor b/c she has been coughing literally since birth (she is almost 20 months now) and this doctor walks into the room...I tell him what's going on with her eyes and he flat out tells me "She is too young for blocked tear ducts...that's not what's wrong with her!!!!" And he was REALLY rude (like I don't know a damn thing) and then I ask him for the referral and he won't give it to me-he tells me she is too young for that also...well she has been coughing for 19 months and she has been on pulmicort the whole time...it does NOTHING to help her...plus my youngest son has bad allergies and asthma-my hubby has bad allergies-I have allergies and asthma...it's called STRONG FAMILY HISTORY!!!! This doctor has made me so mad...what should I do??? I did take Caitie to the opthamologist and he took one look at her and said "We are going in to probe the tear duct...it looks horrible!" GO FIGURE HUH?! Moms know best!!!! Should I switch doctors?

YES! 3 reasons I can think of off the top of my head....

1. He dismissed your concerns

2. He was rude and tried to make you feel like you didn't know anything about your own child.

3. Your child needed help and didn't get it!

Switch!!!! And I hope you get your referral soon!

I would. What a moron! Is he the only doctor in the practice? If he is, switch. If not, you'd have to make sure you never get him again. There are certain PA's and one doctor in our practice that I don't deal well with so I won't let us go see them. Referrals? Ugh! What a pain in the neck, huh? And she's not too young for an allergist! That's when Jaymes started seeing mine and he wanted to know why we didn't start sooner!

Doctors - sometimes you just want to get rid of all of them (or at least the vast majority).

I'm 100% with the Valeries and Jeff. SWITCH!!! And send him a letter about EXACTLY why you're switching!!! How STUPID can a doctor be to say, "she's too young for blocked ducts." HELLO!!!!! That's when most kids have them, is as BABIES! DUH!

This is along the lines of Stephanies doctor saying the baby was too young to have sinuses. SHEES!

It shouldn't even be a question for you---find a new one and make sure that you tell the "doctor" why.

You should change doctors without hesitation. A good doctor should address your concerns and care for your child. This one seems to do neither.

My daughter had a blocked tear duct when she was a couple of weeks old. This guy doesn't know what he's talking about! It looks like it's time for you to find a new doctor.

I would definitely switch doctors. You need one that is supportive of your family and that wants to treat your children. My son is only 7 months old and has already been referred by our ped to an ENT, Ophthalmologist, Endocrinologist and multiple therapists. Good luck, and continue to trust your instincts.
