My PT wants me to consider them for Miranda! I haven't made my mind up yet. Eric got a little grumpy. This new PT wants to use all kinds of stuff and he sort of feels that Colin and Melea did it all on their own eventually- why waste the energy and the medicaid $$$ for only a three month advantage (new study- i will find link) that states children with ds and pt only walk 3 months sooner than their counterparts without it.

I do think Eric forget how far behind she really is. At this age Colin was Cruising and standin/pulling up on his own and had been sitting for a good 6 months. Meleas was even better. Miranda is just so far behind due to her heart (by the way anyone can kick any doctor who ever says that their heart defect will make no difference in their physical developmental issues or mental ones- I GIVE YOU MY PERMISSION - and our ped gave me hers to kick anyone who ever says that again)

Good luck

How my PT described it to me (Eliza uses the Theratogs vest and hip helper shorts) is not so much to help her do things sooner but to help her in positioning, body awareness and abdominal toning. She was talking a lot about low tone and Eliza not using certain muscle groups and the vest kind of forcing her to use and strengthen different areas. I'll admit she gave me a lot of info and I did start glazing over but it made sense and so we are using it...our PT's philosophy which has kind of become mine is when Eliza hits the milestones is not as important as her learning the correct body mechanics of how to do stuff which will help her further down the road.

Jane, we used theratogs off and on for Anna. They clearly give her more stability, particularly in the midsection. The straps can be customized to work various muscles. Our PT has a professional set in a variety os sizes and she lets Anna use the appropriate size from time to time. I looked into ordering them and there was a big difference between having a professional order them or a family member (several hundred dollars).

We have a theratog . We got one for our daughter based on PT recommendation. I can tell you for us, it was a not worth our time or money. I did see slight improvement, but also had issues with it. Takes awhile to fit a child correctly in it (Lily was very wiggly) and she would sweat in it a lot. If i had to do it all over again, I would have said "no Thank You". Just my two cents! Natalie
