Just wanted to say hi. I just found this site and it is wonderful. I wish I had found it sooner.

My name is Bonnie and I have a daughter with DS, she is 21 months old. It was a big shock to us when she was born and then a bigger shock to find out she had a VSD. I had at least five ultrasounds including a level two and nobody found a heart problem. Go figure. My daughter was born at Women and Infants hospital on June 11, 2004. She is the joy of our live. The best baby and always happy. We live in Rhode Island and I was wondering if anyone else was from this area? I also was wondering if anyone else had surgery for a VSD at around two years old. Emily might have to go if her heart doesn't close on its own.

I love reading your post.

Hi Bonnie

A big welcome to you and Emily!

My boy Robert is 23 months old. He's very close in age with your Emily

I am afraid I have no advice to offer about Emily's heart problems, but I know there are many others here who have had heart surgery, and I am sure they'll give you the benefit of their experience.

We live in Dublin, Ireland. I think that's a wee bit away from Rhode Island!!

Delighted you introduced yourself. Looking forward to hearing more about Emily.

Welcome to the site! I'm sure you'll love it here! I joined the boards right when my daughter was born and have learned so much from just reading random threads. Thanks Downsyn!

My daughter is only 10 weeks old. She also has a VSD, but it is tiny and we are told that they expect it to close on its own. They said that it is so small that even if it doesn't close, she won't require surgery. So I can't help you there, but there are plenty of others on this board that have traveled down that road. How big is Emily's VSD?

Can't wait to hear more about your family...and you must post pictures of your angel!

PS...Danielsmommy is from Rhode Island.

Hello and welcome to our family! Just a warning....do you have an addictive personality? If you do, you're in for trouble. LOL This site is highly addictive, and I've heard the FDA is going to put it in the same category as crack!

I'm Leah, mom to Noah 18, Tyler 19, and Angela is 9 1/2 with DS.

Hello Bonnie and Welcome!!!

I'm Jenna, Mom to Nate 2 1/2 yrs old and Lana 10 1/2 mts old with ds.

I'm glad you joined us. This forum is so uplifting, highly addictive, and the people are wonderful. You'll be able to get so much out of coming here, including friendships, advice, and understanding. Plus with Emily being older you can share your experience and advice with all of us with younger kids.

When did they find that Emily had a VSD? Was it recently or at birth? I hope that it closes on it's own, but if it doesn't we'll be here for you with lots of thoughts and prayers.

I look forward to getting to know you and your family.

Can't wait to see pics.

If you need instructions go to http://www.downsyn.com/forum/announcement.php?forumid=19

Hello Bonnie! Welcome! I have a 2 year old granddaughter, named Olivia. She was our little surprise, we didn't know she had DS until right after she was born. She was born with two holes in her heart, but has not required any surgery. I need to find out what her heart condition is called, I have forgotten. She was on a monitor for quite some time because of sleep apnea, but no longer needs it. Right now she is doing just great! I think you're going to love it here!

Hi Bonnie, welcome to the site. Our daughter had a VSD, andASD at birth but the VSD closed early ( around 6 months) and the ASD had closed by the time we went in for our two year old check at the cardio's office at which time we planned to schedule surgery. If the doctors would let you wait it out, I definitely would--it saved our daughter from surgery. It may be that they can close it with a catheter rather than surgery as well.

Hope you enjoy your time with us and you become a regular.

Hi, I sent you a PM with our local info. We had heart surgery in Boston by Dr. John Myer. He did an amazing job on Daniel. He had compelete AV Canal defect. We go to the Pediatric Heart Center in the Coro building for our reg cardio appts. Daniel sees Dr. Rotondo. I am not sure if all surgerys are forwarded up to Boston...but from the very beginning we were told surgery would be up there. We stayed in Boston for a week and I can help you with arrangements if you do have end up having surgery.

If you go to the main forum page and scroll down..you will see a section for Private Messages.

So glad you are here!! Ask me anything about surgery...we took tons of pics too if you think they would be helpful to see. When will you know if she needs surgery?
