I have a feeding question. Elijah is on NeoSure Advance. We have been giving him the powder kind and he seems to get a belly ache from it. He is fussy while eating, and he doesn't take very much (This has ALWAYS been the case with this formula.) at a time. While he was in the hospital, they gave him the ready to feed kind. He took it like a champ. He took more than ever at each feeding and ate more often (good thing?? Maybe!) He didn't seem to have a belly ache at all. Well, now that we're home I started giving him the powder kind (Thats what he gets through WIC) and the same thing started again. I mix it exactly like it says so I don't think it's a mixing issue. Is it possible that the powder just isn't right for him? I'm going to ask the dr what he thinks and hopefully he'll switch him if he thinks that's the case. The only problem is WIC won't pay for the ready to feed without a drs. order and everything else had been attempted first. SO---what do you guys think??! I'm getting ready to take him for his follow up and I need some insight!

Well, if WIC won't give it w/o a doctors order than I am sure there is a difference between the 2...otherwise they wouldn't offer it at all...doctors note or not. I would persist that he get the liquid and I am sure the doctor will give you that note. I mean I know from personal experience w/ Olivia (she had reflux) the pre-made formula made a huge difference.

Let us know how it goes.

He has medicaid right? Just ask the Dr. to prescribe his formula, you should be able to get it that way! We get Grady's pediasure free through medicaid.

I'm not trying to be a downer here, just going to share our experience. When Nicholas was tiny, his eating slowed down, actually became downright AWFUL! We tried different formulas (powder, ready made, etc) and different kinds of nipples, bottles, nothing worked. For him, it was basically because of his heart issue, and the eating didn't get better until after surgery.

I hope this isn't the case for you. Hopefully you can get the ready made formula and it'll make all the difference in the world! Good luck!

Your the parent you no best

Hi elisha, Sean is nearly 15 months and we had that problem too, his doctor prescribed the ready made formula and as he aspirates I thicken it. He has reflux as well though not as bad as earlier. theres only one way to do it MUM knows best, INSIST. Good luck. Oh and maybe play around with the nipples on his bottles, maybe a bigger flow nipple... or ask the hospital ward for a sample bottle of what he drank ring them worth a try....

Madison too wouldn't take the powder either...we always used ready to feed. Actually our dr wanted her on the ready to feed from day one, but I got the powder from the hospital so I tried to use it. Let us know how you make out.

Daniel is the same way. We actually use the liquid concentrate and it works just as well as the ready to feed.

Your ped should be able to prescribe it and you should be able to get whatever you need from WIC.

I have also heard that the mixture is not the same...not sure of the difference though. The powder is harder to tolerate...maybe it ends up being more grainy?

Well that went just great.

So, we went to the dr. for his follow up. He was supposed to get his synagis shot (RSV vaccine) but the dr. said that he isn't "well enough" to have it. Mind you, we waited an hour and a half JUST FOR A ROOM! After waiting in the waiting room FULL of SICKIES, I asked the receptionist if she could take us to the back somewhere away from all the sick kids. I thought I was going to have to bribe her! She made it out to be a big deal...like we shouldn't do what we can to keep him from being exposed to sicklings. He started feeling worse and finally when the dr came in he asked me if he was always so fussy. I said "no, only when he has to go without eating waiting on his dr." !!!! I was SO mad. That poor baby just can't catch a break. I told him about the formula and after almost pleading, he wrote a script for it. I thought I was going to have to twist his leg or something. It was like I had to convence him that he couldn't tolerate it. I mean geez, we want to make this baby's life at least pleasant, right??! So, I got some of the ready to feed, and he has taken almost the whole bottle (32 oz) already! I swear, there HAS to be a difference. Well, I called WIC to tell her that I had a script and I would need his April vouchers to be for the RTF. In the snottiest tone she was like, "Well, we DON'T give vouchers for RTF. You have to get the powder." I told her, "I have a script for RTF Neosure and I WILL need it for April. If you have a problem with that, you'll have to talk to his dr." And that was that. She said, "Yes ma'am, Your vouchers for April will be for the RTF." I hate it that I have to get rude with some of these idiots, but GEEZ! So, now that I got that out of the way, he has to go back next week for his shot if he's better.

So glad you got the script for the liquid. I think it is different. I haven't ever used formula but I hate chocolate milk with the powder but I looooveee it with the syrup. I think it has to be because of the consistancy.
Anyway glad he is doing better.

I don't know what the difference is, but, the ready to feed is thicker and stays down better. All three of my children have had reflux and been on Nutramagin. Unfortunately the can is $8.50 a day. I sure wish they could have used the powder - I would be rich if I had all of that money back.

The RTF is more sweet. I also noticed that Kait had less constipation with the RTF.
