My sister has a down syndrome baby that is 11 months old. They are trying to teach Cameron to crawl and to pick up toys on his own to play with them. He is currently un-interested and unresponsive. He can roll all over the room, but he does not try to crawl. If you give him toys he just drops them. He does not respond to the regular stimulus of toys that most babies will reach for or crawl towards. Does anybody know of a certain type of toy or object that seems to help stimulate interest on the babies part, to make him intersted in it, and to want to try to get to it, play with it, etc? We would like to see him trying to grab things and play with them and get to them. We would appreciate your input!

Henry's favorite toy right now is a 5 inch red frisbee. It fits his tiny hands really well. He likes any of the toys that are links. And he really likes the alphabet ball from Leap Frog.
Oh, and have you tried wearing glasses around Cameron. Betcha, Cameron will snatch those off your face in a heartbeat!
For Henry, he didn't seem to interested in toys either, and now he's picking them all up and banging (within the past couple of weeks). He's 9 1/2 months old.
I wish you the best!

When my son was little I would see what he seemed interested in during therapy and then rush out to buy the toy! It seems silly, but I was willing to get anything he found interesting and we would play it until it lost its interest - then start the game over again at therapy.
After a while he found things on his own, but that is how we started.
Good luck!
Susan

Frustrating isn't it?!! We found the smae with Oliver, he never really took to one particular toy, until he discovered his football and this now goes (almost) everywhere with him. He also likes anything that makes a noise, the louder the better-we have a little tikes piano board for him, and he found his brother's drum!!
Seriously, Cameron will find his own enjoyment in time and until then, anything that continues to stimulate him will be good.

Ok guys and gals. I hope you have a Sam's Club near you. You gotta go get the Nemo stuffed animal ( about 18 inches in size) . It listens for your sounds and responds with a variety of sounds/words. And the eyes light up, and then fades as Nemo is snoring under water and stuff. My husband surprised Henry with it. Henry had been asleep, woke up long enough to laugh at the snoring and the eyes, and then went back to sleep. It's Momma's favorite Henry toy at the moment. Can't wait to in the morning to play more with it . . . . with Henry, of course.
PS. Henry's bday party is going to be in the Finding Nemo theme.
