I am taking Carson to see Dr. L on Saturday and I will be surprised if he doesn't recommend Piracetam. I haven't decided if I am going to use it or not but am leaning to not using it. I would love to hear from people that have tried it whether you use it or not now. If you did stop was it because you did not see a difference?
Thanks,
Kayla

I have talked to a mom of a 5 year old about this. She sees Dr. L . She notices it improving her daughters response time just a bit and kin dof speeding her up (she describes her daughter as very easy going and laid back), she explained it's kind of like a caffeine buzz. It doesn't stay in the system very long. I have always felt there would be something better to help Eliza with her learning and memory when she is school-aged, but if no i'll probably look into piracetam then. This mom also recommended taking it yourself so you could see how it makes you feel before subjecting your child to it.
Let us know what you decide.

That is an interesting suggestion that I have not thought of. I guess though if I am considering it for my child I certainly don't want to give him anything I wouldn't take myself. That "caffeine buzz" helps too. Carson is sooo not laid back. He is intense and goes 90 miles an hour all of the time. He can beat me across the room with him crawling and me walking almost. Is that the type of children that they believe will benefit from the drug. If that is the case I will not use it. Thanks for the info.

I have read parents on yahoo groups say they stopped piracetam because the side effect was overstimming - so maybe that depends on the childs personality??? Don't know. But it does leave the bloodstream fairly quickly so it's the type of thing i wouldn't worry about trying for a couple of weeks to see how it affected my child.
It really opened my eyes to take the gingko dosage they suggested for Eliza. I DEFINITELY felt it and would do that with any sort of neurological supplement before i gave it to her.

I was very happy that he did not prescribe it. I had already decided I wasn't going to give it to him, but he said at this point there was no reason that it was for those passive children to wake them up a little bit. Carson was all over his floor and into everything. I don't think he thought Carson needed to be any more awake. He did tell us to add the Omega 3 fatty acid. I bought it but haven't started that yet.

I took it in large doses before giving it to Avery. I ended up meeting with Dr. L and he stated that she wouldn't benefit from it at her level. I took varying amounts of it first to see what effects it would have. I took the prescribed dosage for two weeks, then took mega-doses of it for three weeks and saw nothing except I had an aversion to fruit juice (because I had to take it with bitter juices as it's liquid form taste was horrific)!
