Yesterday was Dylan's first day back to pre-school. He as been in preschool for 1 1/2 yr so nothing new. He takes a bus from daycare to the school (school provided) and the back to daycare when school is over. It is only a 5 minute drive from daycare to the school. Unstanding it is the first day of school and the bus drivers are learning the kids and routes, BUT Dylan was on the bus for 1 hour and 30 minutes!!! No air and it was 86 degrees yesterday. They claim his name was on the list so they didn't know where to drop him off and they had to wait until the rest of the kids got dropped off so they can figure out where he goes!!! I am sooo mad, calling again today to get more answers from the bus company. This is one of my worst nightmare come true. Always worried about putting him on a bus because he can't talk and say who he is.....

That just stinks. Sorry you had to go through that. Grant starts the same routine tomorrow. Last year, after the bus didn't even have him on the schedule for the first day, I put a label on his backpack with his name, drop off location and my cell phone number on it. It made me feel a little better because we were in the same situation where Grant would not have been able to communicate to tell them where he was heading. I also had daycare call me when he arrived back the first couple of days. Grant loves the bus, so hopefully Dylan was at least enjoying his ride.

What in the world??? So that would mean they didn't know who he was when he got ON the bus!!!! Their procedure should be, on the first day of school, that as teachers or aids or whoever are putting kids on the bus they are checking them against the list the driver has! (ummm...how else do you know for sure they kids are getting on the RIGHT bus?) And if it is the ONLY bus, they still better be checking to make sure they have the kid's name, in case they kid is new or something and the driver doesn't have that kid on his/her list!

Bus company AND SCHOOL need to look at their system a little closer!

I have a card on each of the kids bags..... it has my name their name... ... (bad for pedophiles...good for them) with the route and dropp of points and then another that CHANGES COLOR IF THEY ARE GOING SOMEWHERE DIFFERENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WITH A BIG BUS PHOTO AND AND NO AND X through it!

It seems dumb....but many times notes get left till last minute, emails get missed and they do not always answer the phone!

I try to tell the driver in the am but some morning issues happen second or minuted before the bus arrives with behavior and such this is the last line of defense......

I always try to catch the drivers when they do their practice runs..... I call the company and ask when they are scheduled and we all lie in wait and the "jump" them.....cause it is important and that first day / week is so busy!

OMGosh, this is one of my biggest fears about Jacey starting preschool in Feb... I have heard SOOOO many horror stories from parents here, and from parents (of typical kids) in my town, that I'm terrified to put Jacey on the bus. I don't think there are many kids (typical or otherwise) at age 3 who could tell the bus driver who they are or where they belong. When/if the time comes for us, I may put a big sticker on Jacey's bag as well... Hopefully that will help limit the confusion... Sad

I'm so sorry you had to deal with this. Hopefully Dylan wasn't too much worse for the wear. I'd be right there with you calling the school and the bus company so they get some procedures in place to prevent it from happening again.

On a side note, Jaret (typical son) started kindergarten last week and the first day, the bus had a wreck on the way to school. We were behind the bus so we knew about it just a couple minutes after it happened, but they (neither the school, nor the bus company) did not notify parents until the end of the day. I was appalled.... Was on the phone first thing the next morning (along with many other parents) demanding (ok, requesting) they revamp their procedures to include notifying parents when anything out of the ordinary happens... UGH!

On Dylan's back pack the we have a tag that has his name and is color coded for the class room he is in,. The school has great procedures on tracking the kids on where they go which is pretty amazing on how they do it all. Dylan also have a full list of phone numbers in his back pack and our numbers written directly on his back pack. This issue as I found out was the driver decided to drop all the kids off first then back track to bring Dylan back to his location which should be the first location. Why this took an 1 1/2hr is beyond me when he is 5 minutes from the school. I have ask the school to get involved and ensure this doesn't happen to any other kid.

Glad you were able to get some resolutions.

Abigail (cerebral palsy and 3 1/2) loves riding the bus. Kind of like your Dylan she is the first stop in the morning and LAST stop in the afternoon because she is closest to the school. I don't understand why the first is last in the afternoon really. We're lucky with her though she rides a special education bus, so they have an aide on there who is SUPERB with the kiddos and she has the same drive and aide as last year.

I would've been LIVID
